HSFX 5.0 & 5.01 Simple Mod Guide

Hi, everyone

From the available information given to me, the following is a summary of what is happening with 5.0 and basics on modding it:


Modding HSFX 5.0

Fundamentally V5.0 is not any different in structure to v4.0 or UP. ( Though you must not mix mod packs to be sure to avoid stock, bug-fix, and mod conflicts.)


There are several different ways of modding it and major mod based versions of IL-2.



1) Add Mods by Files You can add material direct to the Files folder in correct format

2) Add Mods by MODS folder You can create a MODS folder in the il2 root directory and then add material to that

3)Add Mods by JSGME Mods Enabler You can create a JSGME switcher option and add material using this.


We REALLY don't recommend 1) as its often irriversible.

One may use mods in a mod pack, which normally would conflict with one another or conflict with HSFX Expert Mode, by putting a minus (-) symbol in front of the name of the folder or file of the mod in order to temporarily disable it. Do this by renaming the file or folder of the mod. When you want to reactivate it, then you may remove the minus (-) symbol in front of the name of the mod file or folder.

It is also possible to create two MODS folders and have only one activated at a time by placing a minus (-) symbol in front of the name of a MODS folder that you want to deactivate. The other folder would have no minus (-) in the front of its name and be activated when you want. This allows you to use mods which would otherwise cause a conflict in specific situations. You could have one MODS folder for online use only and the other MODS folder for offline only use, as another example.





NOTE:
SAS is also going to support HSFX 5.0 'Stock' with their 'Universal' Buttons series - see the HSFX 5.01 fix and Mods Activator topics in this forum. Once you get the buttons, you will be able to add new aircraft (and other mods) to your heart's content.

Warning: The moment you enable 'Expert mode' the new aircraft will not be supported any longer and il2 will not boot!. If you do not care for Expert Mode, then do not activate Expert Mode and mods will usually not be a problem if they are compatible with this version of stock IL-2 and this mod pack. This SAS Mods Activator version is for a specific version of IL-2, so do not expect it to work with ealier or later versions. :!:

This is why we recommend 2) above then whenever you wish to use expert mode, all you have to do is rename your MODS folder temporarily and all will be good.

If you wish to add new maps etc and use them in expert mode, this is best done as a jsgme switcher option to Files & not Mods.


Be sure to thank the 242nd Squadron for hosting and developing this fine mod pack. Recognition to the hard working modders and technical support people who volunteer their time, as well.

4)Add Mods by Mods Activator (ModAct) - Individual mods can be added with this mod act. For many, this is the preferred method for adding them.

CAUTION:

I highly recommend adding more mods to a separate copy of your HSFX 5.01 build. If something goes wrong, then you will still have a clean copy.

Sometimes there are conflicts between mods and stock items, mods and other mods, or adding mods while using more than one method of adding mods.

Your safest path is the above info, read the READ-ME of HSFX and individual modders, and feel free to ask for help.
