I've been looking at the various threads and quite honestly, my head is now spinning.
I would be extremely grateful if someone could guide me step-by-step in activating the Channel map (Canon's). I so miss being able to run the Biggin Hill Wing campaign - my problem was that I had to have a fresh install when I switched from Windows Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit.
I'm not a computer "boff", but also like to think that I'm not too "dense" and this task is starting to get the better of me!

If this is a map that is supposed to come with UP 2.01, then there is nothing to do to "activate" it. It's a matter of knowing what name to look for in the Full Mission Builder map list.

I'll have to check when I get home, just what is there. There are several "Channel" map versions, I think these:
Channel 1940-41 (Can)
Channel 1942-45 (Can)
Channel Winter 1940-41 (Can)
Channel Winter 1942-45 (Can)

Do you happen to know exactly which one you are looking for is named?

I'm really wanting the map to "fly" the 'Biggin Hill Wing' campaign - it looks like the CAN_Channel map.
I think that I need to create a mission in the FMB and then save it as a 'quick' mission, and then fly that 'quick mission' - is that correct?

8FS_Bulau

I'm not familiar with that campaign. Perhaps it uses an old, outdated version of one of Canon's maps. If it's not there, it's not there...nothing to do with quick missions. You may need to find a download for that map and install it in order to fly that campaign.

mungee

Thanks for the prompt reply - I'll look into it.

8FS_Bulau

I did a little checking myself. I seems that campaign was made for the BETA version of Canon's map. The final version, I think, is the four separate maps included in UP 2.01.

How to fix it, I don't know, except maybe to find that old BETA download somewhere and install it, unless the campaign has been updated for the final map.

Sorry, can't help more.

Murph

The beta version of Cannon's channel map is also included in both HSFX and UP. In UP, it's listed in the FMB map list as "channel map 1940 beta (can)".

mungee

Thanks Murph.

Can someone please tell me (step-by-step) how I can get the fantastic "Biggin Hill Wing" Campaign (that uses Canon's Beta Channel map) to run after the UP 2.01 install.

Many thanks in anticipation.

8FS_Bulau

Yeah, I just noticed that last night, Murph. Possibly the map is named differently in the campaign. I would have to download this campaign and see which map it is looking for in the .mis files.

I have an old link at simhq. Where did you get it, mungee?

mungee

It's on the Ubisoft IL2 Mission Builder Forum

The mission files in that download are calling the same load.ini as the beta map in UP 2.01, i.e.
From BHW_07.mis
[MAIN]
MAP CAN_Channel/CAN_40_load.ini

and from UP 2.01 all.ini
English_Channel(Can) CAN_Channel/CAN_40_load.ini

so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Can you explain more about exactly what happens, or doesn't happen, when you try to fly the campaign. Such as error messages, etc.

Have you installed any other map mods yourself, which require editing the all.ini?

Do you have your MODS folder activated, and if so, does it contain a MapMods folder?

mungee

My problem is that the Biggin Hill Wing campaign uses the Slovenia map (not Canon's Beta which it is meant to use) - I cannot run any Channel maps in QMB (I think that I need to do that first?).

Please help! Thanks.

8FS_Bulau

Atually, it is only the very first mission that uses the Slovenia map, sorry I didn't notice that until now. All the rest are on the Channel map. I'm not sure why that is the case...intentional or mistake...seems an odd choice.

If there is no way to run the campaign without doing the first mission, then just fly it as is, and once you finish that first mission, all the rest should use the Channel map. I'll have a look at it tonight in the FMB and see what is going on.

This has nothing to do with the QMB. If you want a map to appear in the QMB, there are some steps to take, but it has nothing to do with making a campaign work.

Many thanks - got it!
