anyone know how to force crossfire to work in IL2? I have heard something about renaming the .exe to anotehr game or even a program to force it.
Hey all,
As you all know AMD is or has released the new and much anticipated FX (bulldozer) cpu.
It currently has four CPUs released; a 4-core, six-core and two 8-core CPUs.
Here is a link to scans pricing of these new chips and they are very competitive
http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-har ... et-am3plus
Even though the reviews and bechmarks are not a great as they are thought to be, i think that this will be one of the best, if not the best chips for gaming for the future, when games will require a lot more cpu power and more cores to run the games
On top of this, Bulldozer architechture allows for ridiculous clock speeds, even the 4-core base model can reach 4.2GHz on stock cooling at 95W. Its rumoured that the flagship 8-core bulldozer (yet to be released) will be able to reach a whopping 5GHz on stock air cooling and still remain well below the max temp of 71 degrees ( i feel that this max temp is pretty poor)
Anyway, i hope you like this bit of information and hope its helpfull

Hi simmers and modelers! Here I'm showing you my first attempt to make a (minor) kit conversion.
I wanted to add a model of Franz Goetz's FW-190 D13 to my collection, since I liked the paintscheme very much. But, despite some web research, I couldn't find any 1/72 kit for this bird (only 1/48 or larger). So, I had no choice but to make my own "custom" D13 from a D9 kit!
Being this my first conversion, I chose as a Base the Airfix 1/72 FW190 D9 kit, which I had already built.
In case you want to try and experiment the same conversion, you may choose to use this kit for some reasons:
- CHEAP: if you mess things up beyond repair, you won't have wasted much cash (about 7 € in stores).
- EASY: the kit builds up easily and fits good.
- MINOR CHANGES: the conversion from D9 to D13 requires relatively little work.
- DECALS: the decals sheet already provides the correct crosses, the fuselage band, the "yellow 10" number and the "ace of spades" that you need for Goetz's D13.
To see a brief review about how the stock kit builds up, take a look here: viewtopic.php?f=170&t=30667
MODIFICATIONS
Since this is a small scale kit with somewhat basic detailing, there's no point in "picking the nits": you can be happy with recreating the main exterior changes from D9 to D13, without the need to reach absolute accuracy standards. Plus, Goetz's "yellow 10" paintscheme is so mottled that it alone will take on most of the final look of the model.
Actually, the only real changes in shape affect the nose: the upper MGs must be removed and while the supercharger air intake must be enlarged. So, I sliced MGs off and filled gaps with putty until I had flattened the cowling, then I sanded to get a smooth surface. To make the air the intake, i simply enlarged the existing piece by deforming the plastic with tools, then again putty and sanding finished the job (see the pic).
In order to reproduce the 20mm cannon that replaces the two MGs, I just painted the gun muzzle on the tip of the spinner and filled one of the inner slells exhausts on the belly (leaving only the left one).
The painjob was made 100% by hand brush.
Many of the necessary decals are in the kit, but some are missing. I left my model without serial number and hakenkruz on its tail and painted the white-bordered black stripes aside of the crosses on the fuselage. I also had to paint the white background of the aces of spades, since they were transparent. The white spiral on the spinner is hand painted, too. Stenciling was poor, so I just omitted it.
The black crosses under the wings are smaller than they should be, because I sliced them out of a pair of black-white fuselage crosses.
The bomb is the only part I added "out of the box". I've found no photos of Doras carrying ground ordnance, but a few fonts tell about the D13 having ground attack capability (it has in IL-2), so for something different I replaced the stock droptank with a bomb.
So that's it! My finished 1/72 D13 won't win any contest, nor shine with details, but i'm quite pleased with the result. Not that bad for an experiment!
GMAX. This is a stripped down version of 3D Studio Max. It can only save as .gmax files, which can't be opened by anything, and can only export as .p3d files, which I've never seen used. However, you can download and install the Tempest game pack from Turbosquid, which has an MD3 exporter (Which can be opened in a couple of modeling programs), and there is also a workaround for exporting as an X file, which I will go over Download at http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax.
I've found this to be the easiest way to save to X with GMAX.
I'll diagram that here.
1. First download the ‘Gmax gamepack SDK’ found at this link: FlightSimulator exporter plugin. Size is about 15Mb http://www.bzcomplex.com/myfiles/gmax/f ... _setup.exe.
Although only 3 files are actually needed, they are not available as separate downloads, so unfortunately you’ll need to download the whole thing.
2. Next, download programs 'MDLCommander' http://www.bzcomplex.com/myfiles/gmax/MDLCommander.zip
and 'Middleman'
http://www.bzcomplex.com/myfiles/gmax/M ... 3beta3.zip
3. After download, you’ll see that the 'fs2004_sdk-gmax-setup' is an exe. If you install it in the default gmax directory, you’ll end up with a lot of extra stuff that you don’t need. So create a new folder somewhere on your hard drive and install it there.
4. When done, open the folder, go to gamepacks > fs2004 > plugins. And copy all 3 files: 'FSModelExp.dle', 'makemdl.exe' and 'makemdl.parts.xml' to your main ../gmax/plugins folder.
5. You need to rename two of the files. Right click on 'makemdl.exe' and rename it to to 'mkmdl.exe'. Then right click on 'makemdl.parts.xml' and rename it to 'mkmdl.parts.xml' (without the quotes).
6. Next, unzip 'MDLCommander.zip'. Then copy 'mdlcommander.exe' to your main ../gmax/plugins folder. This file also needs to be renamed. Right click on 'mdlcommander.exe' and rename it to 'makem.exe'.
7. Finally, unzip 'Middleman13beta3.zip'. Then copy 'makemdl.exe' to your main ../gmax/plugins folder.
8. To convert your gmax model to .X format. Go to ‘File > Export’ and select ‘Flightsim Aircraft Object (.MDL) from the file type dropdown. Type in a filename and click Save. The Middleman dialog window should now appear. Click the ‘Options’ tab and check ‘SaveXFile’ (this saves the x file) and ‘nocompile’ (this tells mdlcommander to only create an .X file not mdl/bgl). Then click the GO button.
After a few seconds the dialog will close and your newly exported .X model should be in the directory where you saved it to.
Could someone point me in the right direction to get radar working?
I put a radar station on the map at a friendly airfield, but planes don't show up. Works in UP3.

Can't get music to play when I tune into a radio station (such as Honolulu).
Is this right or am I doing something wrong?
I've enabled play music in the sound setup and placed what should be the correct mp3 .wav file format sound into the Honolulu radio folders.
There were two folders so I put the sound in both.
Installed HSFX5.0.1
I can lower landing gear, but can't raise it...via toggle landing gear key.
Any solutions?
