Boomerang and Wirraway! How about it? Both saw action with the RAAF, particularly over Darwin and PNG.

yeah i second that motion, I'm thinking that maybe the buffalo could be used to convert to the boomarang, sort of the same size and manuevability.

+1

Cheers, Neil Smile

Ah, if only Big Grin

- RAF_Leigh - 25.03.2008

seccond that

with the wiraway you could just put a different cowlling on it and pull the rudder up and ta-da a wirraway

- RAF_Magpie - 25.03.2008

Definatly a must have. The Boomerang in particular (and if it has cannons, it must have that wicked whistling sound it makes... (leigh, if you could post a link to your video...?)

As for the Wiraway, perhaps simply modding the SBD3, with the cowling from the A5M perhaps (or something close), and enlarging her mast a fair bit...?,?

- Brophmeister - 25.03.2008

I'm thinking for the Boomerang the fuselage of a P36 and the wings of an SBD, but yeah the Wirraway could be done from an SBD with only minor tweaking of some components.

- RAF_Magpie - 25.03.2008

Weren't the initial Boomer's made with Wiraway left-overs? Ie their wings, tail-section and engines (in initial models)..?

- Brophmeister - 25.03.2008

Uhhh, yeah actually. My bad.

- Tyberan - 25.03.2008

wirraway was a bastardised T-6 texan or harvard. The boomarang was built from wirraway parts well some of them, it only took 16 weeks from government approval to full production.

I was thinking about having a go at modding it myself, I got the sfs extractor and extracted an aircraft i think suitable for modding but apart from that I dont know how to go about it. I have photoshop to moddify the TGA files, but like i said I'm not sure how guys like Rawners does the modding magic.

- RAF_Leigh - 25.03.2008

RAAF point cook

at the air padgent ver good place got 400 pics and vid there Tongue

- RAF_Magpie - 25.03.2008

I've seen some skin hacks for a Wirraway... but the real deal would be nice. Would not the SBD-3 make a decent base for one of these?

Re: Boomerang; apparently the whistling noise in Leighs vid' is the airflow over the canons Smile.. My biggest regret regarding local airshows, was my missing the Nelson airshow, back near 2000, when there was a beautiful wee Boomer that was present Sad This is one that I reckon should definately be thrown into the mix

- RAF_Leigh - 25.03.2008

yes magpie u are correct but i think it the airflow over the 4 .30 cals insted of the cannons
