Sliding Canopies - No.5 Studly - 21.12.2008
Hello Chaps i was wondering if anyone was still doing the Mod for sliding Canopies for the Hurricanes as i did see a Topic here at one stage

Yes, theres experts here who know do this mod...
- 109dude - 22.12.2008
a bit off topic, but is anyone planning a sliding P-47D(razorback and bubble)mod?
- {HVY}A10inbound - 22.12.2008
Hell no that's not off topic, I would really enjoy sliding canopies and opening windows for all aircraft, that would be badass.

I'm all for this mod too, but perhaps whoever intends on making this mod should focus on planes that were actually flown with open canopies. By that I mean planes for which we have written or photographic accounts of their being flown in combat with open canopies. I don't think that many bubbletop Jug or Mustang pilots flew with open canopies, given the speeds and altitudes they usually operated at.
Cheers

Carrier bourne Mitsubishi Zero's needed an open canopy to land as did their US counterparts (already modelled) and Ki-84's had a raised seat position/open canopy configuration in order to taxi on a runway without crashing into obstacles that the nose of the plane would otherwise hide from the pilot

It would be also great if these overwrite the old "eject animation", now sliding the canopy back instead of throw it away
this would be cool for Hurris and Spits !!!

Ya, It would be great to see this on all planes (exept the P39)
I think Several people are working on it, but they are only able to do one at a time.
Currently I know someone is working on a P47 canopy, and I think another on a spit,
- Murph - 22.12.2008
The original version of the Spit MkI had a sliding canopy. Also the newer versions of the Tempest. Is was discontinued in later versions due to a problem it caused in online play. Apparently this is not so simple as it looks.
Historcally, the FW 190 and Bf109s, as well as the 262 could not open their canopy while in-flight.
- Jg3_Hartmann - 22.12.2008
Well, they can...but it would have been the last thing the canopy does while it

Why not? I know I would get great fun opening the door to a P-39 or a Typhoon Mk. I while taxiing or on the ground.
