WARNING :
New 3do airfield textures for winter & summer (just less saturated for the latest) have been provided in order to fit well within these maps.
Please back-up your previous ones in order to restore them if you don't like the ones I provided.

I also re-provided M-bug's winter Slovakia textures to avoid a separate download. I reduced their color depth to 256c to "lighten" the pack & save memory. Back-up your own ones to avoid overwrite of them .

Look at GW-mapspack_readme.txt for details.

Thanks to Fly-Zo, Compans, CanonUK, MayBug, LAL-Rone, Tab & Slovakia map team for their work & help.

This is going to be a silly question no doubt, but still:

Since these maps are standard maps and not in the ...Mods/Mapmods/Maps/ folder .... how do we back up these maps? As far as I have been able to make out, all the info on these maps are normally hidden in some complicated manner in the .sfs files. You can't even find out which .sfs file corresponds to which map anyway.

So, what do we have to back up?

Any file in your mapmods folder that this pack is likely to overwrite. As for the maps in this pack replacing info normally hardcoded in the .SFS, no need to back up anything. To revert back to the original maps, all you have to do is delete the appropriate folder in mapmods/maps.

Great job Gilb, I've been anxiously waiting for this one to come out ! Congratulations and thank you very much, I will be trying them out tonight.

Cheers

Nico

Downloading now. They look fantastic too. Thanks for all the hard work, I'm sure this took quite some time to produce.

There is no word in English, French, German, Russian or Swahili to express my gratitude for what you did with Normandy's Map_T Confusedhock:
You are my new hero. It's going to take me a little tweaking of the load.ini to suit my needs, but the new layout is just wonderful.

You wouldn't be a woman by any chance ? Because if you are, I'll marry you right away Big Grin

Merci Beaucoup !

Thanks A Lot !

Vielen Dank !

большое спасибо !

Asante Sana !

So, what do we have to back up?

Any file in your mapmods folder that this pack is likely to overwrite.

Sigh ... In fact I was asking what folder or files are indeed likely to be overwritten. And since none of the new winter maps are contained in folders in the Mods/MapMods/Maps folder anyway, what would there then be to overwrite in the first place?

I am wary of .exe install files, since once set in motion, they often tend to overwrite files without prompting and then there is no way of undoing. Which is why the excellent advice is given to backup the necessary files beforehand.

But I am still no closer to knowing which folders or files are likely to be overwritten. I don't want to do anything irrevocably wrong.

if you have custom runways .... back them up
if you have M-bug's high res textures (1024x1024) and want to keep them ..... back them up

basically.... back up these folders :

mods\mapmods\maps\_Tex
mods\mapmods\3do

Many thanks ... that is something that my limited experience can cope with. A simple and unambiguous explanation. Advice much appreciated.

Quote:are standard maps

No replacement, but they are BASED on standard maps... no change in the road/rail network, no change in the cities & villages. So you can use them for your older missions & campaigns .

About the backups, Fly-Zo gave the answer :

The ones I provided are the same 1024x1024 (some others are 512x512, because original tex was 512x512) But 8 bits instead of 24 bits: I found no difference in the game but memory used is divided by 4 !!!

- fly_zo - 19.01.2009

ups .... sorry for misinformation

- VonBarb. - 19.01.2009

Hey who knows, those 8bit textures might not cause my game to crash when I try to use them on other maps like the original 24bit ones did... Gonna have to try this ASAP... Big Grin
