Which performance should have the new Fw-190A-4? - I/JG27_Waggel - 11.05.2009
At the moment we have the new Fw-190A-3. This plane mainly served in 1942. The radial engine has the performance of 1942. The cockpit is still from 1943 but the A-3 will get a new cockpit with 1942 instruments.
The A-4 is nothing else than an A-3 but with another radio system. Production began in summer 1942 but there where several updates in early 1943. This plane served until the end of 1943.
We have 3 choices:
1) Like FW-190A-3
This plane will be like the A-3. The only difference whould be the radio antenna like we have in the stock version.
2) we make an early 1943 A-4
This means that the motor will get a little update. This whould give the A-4 + round about 10km/h in most regions up to 6000 meters. The A-4 whould get the cockpit like the stock version (instruments from 1943).
3) Like A-3 but with gm1 mixture
This whould rise the top speed in regions over 6000 meters (plus 15 km/h). Cockpit from the stock A-4
------
I personally whould make version number two, because I do not have much information of the GM1 mixture.
I also do not know how many A-4 where modified with the gm1 mixture. It whould also be very bad for the P47 for example. The operational room for this plane whould be very small because the FM only goes up to 10.ooo meters.
I know that many A-4 served in 1943 and they had a little bit more top speed than the A-3. This whould relieve the allied pilots online. So they do not have to fight against A-5 all the time. The server admin could limit the A-5 online but luftwaffe pilots still have an A-4 which is a good fighter plane.

i would rather say, make diffrent versions.
Like:
Fw-190A-4 42 (with new Radioantenna)
Fw-190A-4 43 (with updated Engine and stock Cockpit)
Fw-190A-4 Gm1 (with Gm1 mixture)
What do you think?

I would go for the 2nd option. Upgrades to most engines were incremental in WW2 and the BMW 801 is no exception. Specially since they had sorted out most of the earlier overheating problems and were starting to stretch it's legs.
Besides, an A4 equal to an A3 isn't very atractive (also regarding operational use) and reduces the appeal of flying a newer later version.
The GM-1 option is interesting but we don't really know how many used it, so I would expect the more common uprated version without GM-1 to be the best option.

I guess you're not the guy doing the FM work, right?

if you mean "not" you are right!
But i think its nothing you have to worry about it
And i would prefer the second Option!

S!
As said before a Fw190A-4 similar to A-3 would not be very appealing to most pilots. And how widespread was this version? The 2nd option is best as it would possibly reflect the most widely used variant of the A-4 and have a difference over the A-3. The GM-1..how many people do you see on any server above 7km? Most furballs are below 3km anyway. So option 2 is my vote.

???
A4 should be A4 as it really was.
This poll has no logic in it.
- I/JG27_Waggel - 12.05.2009
A-4 was real in different ways

Read the post.. as the A4 had various upgrades, these are now being discussed.

what - and have a plane that upstages what the reds have got. Never!

The second option is the best. It captures the most common version of the aircraft and from a gameplay perspective, it actually adds something more than just a visual mod.

upstage? Does that mean you want to put someone into the background? oO(Looking to Mr. Jolly ... "Is that something to eat???")
We do not want to upstage anyone or anything. This is not our intention. This poll whould not exist if we whould like to upstage something. But thank you for the new word. I like it :-P

What would be the difference between a A-4 from 1943 and a A-5? I mean: If a A-4 from 1943 is essentially a A-5, why not skip the A-4 and make the A-5 instead?
IIRC the difference between a 1942 A-3 and A-4 are the loadout options, so why not make a A-4 with same performance as A-3 but increased loadouts (Jabo, Schlachtflugzeug).
Then make a A-5 with the performance of 1943.

S!
If you look at the A-5 the physical appearance is quite different due engine mountings etc. I am very glad that Waggel & Team is working on these planes, making them closer to what they were. Remember that many other planes are getting same "treatment" on "other" side too
I really appreciate the effort Waggel & Co have put into this, FW190A-3 is a gem
And it requires you to fly it within envelope or you will get killed by it or the enemy
So bring on the W
