add some trains,,, to your chiefs.ini

add these lines after the last german train.... near the top of the chiefs.ini..

Germany_CargoTrainLong objects.trains.Train 2 icons/train.mat
Germany_CargoTrainMixed objects.trains.Train 2 icons/train.mat
Germany_electric objects.trains.Train 2 icons/train.mat
Germany_Locomotive objects.trains.Train 2 icons/train.mat

and then add these to the train make-ups....near the bottom of the chiefs.ini

do i just add them at the end or should i paste them in the correct chapter and overwrite any excisting lines which maybe there already?

not at the end...and they will not overwrite

look in the chiefs.ini

ships/tanks/vehicles/trains are listed in the first section...add the top files to the end of that list
the detailed make-up of vehicles in a convoy or trains is in the second part.... add the bottom files to the end of the german trains list

just look throught the chiefs ini first and try to understand its make-up

...nothing worth having comes easy... in this game...or in life

Hi cgagan!

Should be in the same directory as air.ini, ships.ini, static.ini,
normally here: ....\MODS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects\chief.ini

If you have no chief.ini, I have downloaded the default chief.ini
a time ago, (don't know wherefrom), but meanwhile there was
lines of the ship-Pack2 and tank.pack added, I can send this to you.

If you please! I checked the relevant folder and I only have air, technics, static and stationary.ini files. I don't have shippack 2. I searched the entire game directory but no result. Mystery!

My chief.ini was in a directory called 'chiefs_ini' in the MODS folder itself.

MODS/Chiefs_ini/com/maddox/il2/objects/chief.ini

and it is called 'chief.ini' - without an 's'.

So go figure i thought ... anyway, I applied the additions and by golly it all works perfectly.

So if you can't find 'chiefs.ini' , maybe you ought to do a search for 'chief.ini'.

I don't know where the difference in name comes from or even when I installed it, but in any case it works on my setup ... for which thanks for the tip ...

I once put together several types of vehicle convoys, which made for a nice addition. But then when i tried the same for a shipping convoy, I got the 60% ctd ...

Same here. A quick search of my install only gave me one chief file, a skin for the P-47 called "Little Chief". 8)

Do these "chief.ini" files come with certain maps or object mods?

Thanks ffb. I didn't have the mixed cargo train yet.

Now as a way of saying thank you for helping me figure out how to do all this...

I also made a shorter train if anyone is interested.



Here are the lines you need to add as per Fabianfreds instructions:

In the section-
[Trains]
moveType TRAIN
add;
Germany_CargoTrainShort objects.trains.Train 2 icons/train.mat

In the German train section add;

Hi JAMF!

Yes, it comes with e.g. ship-pack1, -2 or tank pack 1.0.
Somewhere in the forum (don't remember where)
is a link with the default chief.ini which, I think,
isn't normally not necessary if you have no Mods installed,
which needs to extent this file with their input lines.

I have a download of default chief.ini sent to cgagan,
i you wish, I can do the same for you, post me your mail adress,
or, other possibility is to post it as plain text here...

Followed your instructions, all works,
I saw in the fabianfred mission a japanese-train with
25 (mixed Typ)-)Wagons or more, awful!
