[Poll] Civilian Planes? - Guest - 18.06.2009
When I say 'civilian aircraft' I mean Airliners from the time of the modded planes created here (WWI to Korea) if you would like to fly more modern aircraft say so in a reply. Some civilian airliners of the interwar and post war periods were operated as military transports like the DC-3(C-47), DC-4(C-54) and the Lockheed L-7409 'Constellation'(C-69, C-121). But would you like to fly planes such as the Boeing 314, Martin M130, De Havilland Comet and so forth? What you think... Deutchmark? Ranwers? Mr Jolly?

Sorry but I'm a little confused as to the reason for civilian AC in a flight combat simulator...isn't that what MS flight simulators are for? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for shooting down unarmed AC

True, but I've been thinking using them for VIP protection missions and anyway Oleg has already added a civilian Su-26 to Storm of War

These are my favourite airliners and the ones I'd most like to see fly.

Hello all,
Civilian aircraft could be good in this game. Could be interesting for mission and campaign building. Just think of all the border incidents, airspace violations and other situations that did happen or might happen in historical or fictitious pre-conflict scenarios, not just for WW II but for all sorts of other conflicts, or near-conflicts in regions that we now have the proper maps for in this game.
However, perhaps we could start with civilian versions of aircraft that are already in the game, such as the Fi-156, the Ju-52, Fw-200, C-47, etc. Perhaps, new slot versions of these planes could be created with gunner stations and other weapons removed and with civilian skins. I don't know anything about 3D modelling, so I maybe thinking it is easier than it actually is.
However, overall, I belive that civilian aircraft would be a good addition to the game, as would more civilian vehicles, by the way.
Regards,
RB

Electra and Bolo are very good idea, and was used in war.

If I have my choice between getting NECESSARY planes to complete plane sets like:
Helldiver
Devistator
Avenger
Nick
Judy
USS Yorktown
IJN escort carriers
Do 17
Ju 52 bomber varient
exc ...
versus unarmed civilian airliners ... I will take the above any day. If civil stuff is your thing, all the best too you, but I would much rather see some key missing planes finished before this. And like a poster above stated, if you want to fly civil planes, go play MS Flight simulator. IL2 is a combat simulator. Not trying to tick anyone off, I just don't feel civil planes have much use in this sim outside of a couple of single missions or for eye candy. Or maybe I should say they don't fit into the bread and butter of this sim which is:
1) Online combat
2) offline campaign
This will accomplish neither. Sorry to be blunt. I am tired and this is how I feel

Well if some 1 has the models avalable i don;t see why to waste them. Although the point is that there probably better things we can work on.
I would like to see the civilian planes because it add's some what more realism. Fighters have found civilian planes before.

Yep, some of them look a nice add, i like the electra too, seems kind of rough transport for men and materials.
They should be good planes to provide SUM over cities, airports or front line. "civilian" planes as cargo are always welcome

Like bohr-r, I think that unarmed planes have their place in this sim, if they have been used by any army.
A paratroops-transport mission is also a combat mission, just as a fighter mission is. Of course, frustrated cowboys only interested in dogfights and kills will not like, but personnally, I find as many interest flying a resupply mission with a C-47 as flying a reconnaissance mission with an unarmed plane, or a ground attack mission...
I agree about the missing planes in this sim (Dorniers, D-520, etc...), but for me, the variety of the missions possible is also important... believe me, flying in an unarmed planes in a defended zone is even more exciting than shooting down adversaries !!! do you know why ??? because it needs much more skill and ability !!!
In real life, reconnaissance pilots are generally the best ones...

good idea to include some civilian planes.
instead of: would you fly civilian planes? the better question is: who will create them?
i think you all can imagine, how long it takes to make a new aircraft, and i think with the canvas knights, the capacity of the community is...
ok the only thing i wanted to say is: either you find a modder who has the time, or do it yourself.
if i could help in any way i would do this, but im a noob.
