Explain please .... Have you DL UI1.1? ... UI1.2?

have you swicthed mods on via the switcher program?

Listen, I know you're new here but surely you should know that we need a more detailed description of your problem to solve it. Calling this thread "Stupid mods" and then whining that no one has answered your thread and has therfore "wasted your precious hours" 8 minutes after your first post is rather uncalled for, but that's just my 2 cents. Anyway, what have you done to try and install our wonderful (and easy to install once you get the hang of it) mods. Did you install the Unified Installer?

8 wasted minutes is short time in a lifetime. Just relax and wait for answer. Someone will help you if you ask nicely.

I must waste a lot of my time therefor, since my (modded to the max) game takes around 5 minutes to just boot up ... ha ha.

Seriously though - patience. It took me more than a month to figure out how to make a simple mission in the FMB, about double the same for skinning and afterwards for map making. This is a most rewarding game if you take the trouble to do things properly.

If you have just bought a CD of the game and installed it you probably have version 4.07

This you must first upgrade to version 4.08 and afterwards to version 4.09 using 2 separate patches/upgrades. One for upgrading 4.07 to version 4.08

This link I don't have handy, but it ca found on many different sites. Just Google for something like Il-2 patch/Sturmovik patch/Sturmovik 4.08 or the likes ...

And then you need to do another far larger but very exciting and varied content upgrade from 4.08 to version 4/09

This last can be downloaded here at the forum using Unified Installer files available for download here:

Ok DogDick.. post up your exact problem, how you have attempted to install the mod or mods, and you will find there are people only too willing to help.
A more mature approach should bare fruit..

Mod installation - gdotts - 17.10.2009

Hello,

I have 409b1M and 1.2 installed and it works great. I also was wondering how to enable and disable mods in 1.2. I see lots of folders in the MODS folder but have no instructions on how to. I can not seem to get on to the SAS site for their version of a mod installer and button thing although I have tried now for a week. Can you please inform me of a mod enabler for the game.

Thanks
gdotts

the SAS site is down unfortunately, due apparently, to a very maliciously intended attempt to 'put them out of business' so to speak. So you'll have to wait for a while before they start up again.

Most mods are disabled by putting a '-' in front of the name of the folder. The game does not read Mods folders with that in front of the name.

For instance if you have a MODS folder called 'Wunderwaffe' ten it can be disabled by renaming it to '-Wunderwaffe'.

But you must be careful when disabling mods that possibly refer to other files or mods. How to find out? Carefully read install instructions.

Did you patch to the correct version of 4.09?

Unless you've modded your 4.09m, the map won't work with that.
The map works fine with UI 1.1 on 4.09b1m (the beta 4.09)

It would also help if you were a bit more descriptive of what you have installed, be it soundmod 9.x, UI 1.1, UI 1.2 or some other modpack.

DoggyDick Wrote:In my quest to get hold of Canon's Channel Maps, I've patched to v4.09 as requested.

I've subsquently dowloaded the 4 essential "mods": Bran Toc objects
Fortifications
LAL Rone's Hangar
KDP Road Plates.

I've then opened the rar files and followed the instructions therein:
Similar instructions are included with the maps.
And there's the problem.

If it's any consolation, I too cannot get this specific map to work properly. I've made some 20 maps on my own already, from scratch and all, so it's not due to instructions needing to be on a simpleton's level - though they are easy to follow nonetheless. It must be related to something else ... which is not that unexpected in heavily modded games.

If this map won't work for you, then install other things first. Nor is there any prssing need to install may mods at once. That is usually, even for experienced modders, a recipe for something to go wrong.

DoggyDick Wrote:My first post was a statement of frustration, I didn't expect a reply. The second was simply a P.S. to the first. N.B. Although I've been using IL-2 for about 4 years, the idea of "modding" was unknown to me before two weeks ago, so all instructions have to be at simpleton level.

Welcome to the intertubes friend.

For your information, Enjoy your stay. Smile

Erhm. A day has 24 hours, not 80  Enough for this, I'll let these people help you.

- RedChico - 17.10.2009

Very nice way to start DoggyDick, very nice.

- Trooper117 - 17.10.2009

Let me see if I have this right.. you haven't modded the game, just patched up to the official 4.09????
If thats the case then no, of course you can't get any mod to work because it has to be fully modded up to UI standard first..
And by the way DD, if you start a thread by stating 'useless mods', you are going to walk into some flak aren't you, people spend months preparing these for free use to everyone.
How can you start a thread by stating mods are useless, then in the next statement say you have admiration for those that make them?

- Trooper117 - 17.10.2009

No, you aren't wasting your time if you have the game correctly modded up, but you are if you have the 'vanilla' game patched up to 4.09 and then try to install just a map mod.. is this the case?
Trying to get a handle on your problem is the first issue..
