[Download] Sands Of Time, revisited - VonBarb. - 10.11.2009

Hi

Just a little facelift of the old SandsOfTime (OnlineMT) map with a new Map_T file and using Viking's MTO textures and some of the new 1C ones. One of the ugliest maps by default, but lots of excellent old campaigns still use it. This is for those who like to replay old MTO favourites (Ace Of Aces, Shark Nose Squadron, Luftwaffe Pilot : Afrika...)

Download temporarily removed to fix some issues and give me time to go shop for a brain...

This modification requires Viking's textures to work. Download and install his excellent El_Alamein Map here :

http://allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19597&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

To install, simply drop the 'sandsoftime' folder in your MODS/Mapmods/Maps folder.

Note that 'MTO_lowland_3' has been renamed 'MTO_lowland_3_Fields' in the 4.09 final patch. I have included a 4.09 compliant version of the load.ini for those who are using the patch.

Many thanks to Viking for his excellent textures which have finally made the desert the beautiful place it should have been from the start Wink !

Cheers

Nico

Awesome. The skin of the Bf-109 is nice too.

- GilB57 - 11.11.2009

GREAT !

Just a little remark : the yellow sand may be a little less saturated ? (I'll test that as soon as I already desaturated Vking's El Alamein texs...I don't know who but someone did a test with desaturated texs on El Alamein and the result was really amazing ).

Having visited North Africa recently, I thought I'd give this a try, but I get a sandsoftime/load.ini error on loading the map. Coincidentally, I can't load the OnlineMT map through QMB or FMB any more.

I've followed the above instructions to the letter and the El Alemain map is installed and working. Am I missing something here?

Rawheid Rex, do you use the 4.09 official patch ? Did you install the 4.09 compliant version ? You need to dezip it and place it in you mapmods/maps folder instead of the 'sansoftime' folder.

When you attempt to load the map in the FMB and it gives you a loading error, press 'Left Shift + Tab' and read the lines at the bottom of the log. They should tell you what gives you the loading error. post what you get here and we'll be able to sort you out.

Cheers

Hi VonBarb,

Thankks for the quick response.

I'm using version 4.09b1m, UI 1.2

The chief error messages at the bottom of the FMB screen are:

INTERNAL ERROR Can't open file Maps/tex/land/summer/vkg_Egypt/Midland1a_fields_A.tga
INTERNAL ERROR LoadTextureFromtTga Maps/tex/land/summer/vkg_Egypt/Midland1a_fields_A.tga

This vkg_Egypt folder doesn't seem to exist in my install?

Nico

You need the texture folder from Vikings map to be installed into your _Tex folder according to the instructions for Vikings map

Easy

- Rawheid Rex - 11.11.2009

When I unzip the El_Alamein file, the file it can't find (Midland1a_fields_A.tga) is in the following folder:

Maps\_Tex\vkg_textures\vkg_Egypt\Midland1a_fields_A.tga

...so I copied the vkg_Egypt folder into my Maps/tex/land/summer/

I can now load the OnlineMT map in the FMB, no problems!

I had also d'loaded the Luftwaffe Pilot Afrika campaign, but when I load the first mission, I now get a 'memory could not be read error' once it reaches 100% loaded. Is this a related problem?

**Just tried a QMB with this map and it works**

Can anyone let me know where to find other missions/campaigns for this map?

- VonBarb. - 11.11.2009

That is strange... anybody else getting that problem ? If I have viking's textures installed to a different folder on my instal, then everybody should have issues...

No idea about the 'memory cannot be read' issue. It might be that your computer doesn't have the resources to run the mission (FlatSpinMan is known for densely populating his missions with many ground objects.) or that you need a defrag. I've been getting this a lot myself since I made a new HSFX-based install this morning.

Look for 'Ace of Aces' and 'Shark Nose Squadron' at M4T. They both use sansoftime/OnlineMT for at least half of their missions. There must be others I'm sure...

Cheers

... moved to betas ,

cos of overwriting hazard ( many people have default maps edited /customized ... )

please use prefix for your files and list it as new map in all.ini

thank you
