Tribal Class Destroyer for HSFX4 - asheshouse - 06.12.2009

This replaces the Frankenship version included in HSFX with a scratch modelled version.
Extract and paste the following folder into root/Mods in your HSFX4 installation.
Also compatible with HSFX4.1

Warning :- May be incompatible with later versions of HSFX. Disable before installing updates.

Previous version for UI 1.1/1.2 was posted here viewtopic.php?p=259240#259240
I expect the HSFX version will be ok with UltraPack1.8 --- but I've not tested it.

The mod does not include any new class files. It uses the existing ones for the HMS Tribal Class in HSFX4.
It does however include a new ship.ini file which is necessary because of differences in the model structure.
The existing ship.ini is not overwritten and remains in the root/files folder, but is not loaded into the game unless the MODS folder is disabled.

The new ships will be found in Full Mission Builder under Objects/ShipPack and Objects/Stationary ShipPack

Does this mean that no other mods will work if you want the Tribal?

Very nice work, though, and it's good to see an actual new ship instead of just a repaint. Thanks.

It works fine with HSFX4 (the current version). All the other Mods including ShipPack work fine.

Problems will occur if any future mods, including updates to HSFX, add more ships.
This could create future crashes because the ship.ini I have added might become incompatible.
If this did happen just disable my Tribal mod until my ship.ini is updated.

Of course if the HSFX team adopt my version of the Tribal then the potential problem will not occur.

great model!

Will you be producing any more ships. Would love to see J class Destroyer, Corvettes, Loch Class Frigates and Town Class Cruisers especially.

Thanks

At the moment I don't have a lot time to spend on modelling so my progress is slow.

I am currently working on a new carrier, HMS Eagle which I hope to complete.
I will post an image when the LOD0 model is completed.

Other things started but currently shelved include HMS Warspite BB, HMS Scylla Light Cruiser, HMS Ark Royal and a Supermarine Walrus (spin off from the Warspite project). Might continue with one of those when Eagle is completed.

Principal focus is the MTO so I've also collected plans of most of the major Regia Marina ships, but not started any of those.

Despite having insufficient elevation on her main 4.7" guns, The 'Tribals', are arguably, one of the most beautiful modern warships ever made Big Grin .

Thats one of the reasons that the model remains WIP.
Currently the main guns borrow the specification of the USS Fletchers, so they elevate too far.
A new gun specification needs to be created to limit the elevation, but I'm not sure how to do it yet.

Just wish I could make ship models too.
Are your models from SH4 or scratch built?
Would be great if we had the major ships from MTO in IL2.
Good luck

- asheshouse - 06.01.2010

models are scratch built.

I have experimented with importing models from SH4 but because they are structured and textured differently to IL-2 models so it does not help much. Also they are modelled so as to look good from a periscope, not from the air. I imported a model of HMS Furious CV into 3ds from SH4 but the shape of the flight deck was completely wrong when viewed from above.

That's really quite sad, the ships in SH look really nice from the periscope... but isn't it faster to make a 3d model if you already have another model to base your work on?

As in layers in photoshop?

Am sure that the HMS Furious in SH3 was a bash up from MS Combat Flight Simulator3 (but I maybe wrong) . Maybe the modder builder messed up the flight deck.
I play SH3 and 4 and most of the Stock ships look great to me. Especially the Cruisers and destroyers.
