Is there a B-26 in progress, here/there/anywhere? - Mysticpuma - 02.04.2010

Just wondering if anyone has one on the go?

I remember a while back RAF_Magpie was looking at it, but I think that went MIA?

Has there been any news on one that I have missed?

Cheers, MP

RAF_Leigh was working on one. He had stopped due to RL commitments. It would be nice to see one added someday... a gaping hole in the IL2 world.

I certainly hope the B-26 will surface sooner (preferably) or later. Apart from it being a beautiful airplane it was also one of the workhorses of the American air force.

Agree that it is probably one of the most famous of the 'missing' bomber from IL2. I hope that one-day, those who have the talent to create one, can bring it to the Sim.

Absolutely agree with you, but I

Why bother with important medium bombers when you can recreate the major action from "Final Countdown"?

So back OT.......it looks like B-26 is sadly neglected then Sad

Gutted!

If RAF Leigh is unable to complete the project, maybe he would be willing to release the work he has done so far (and lookin' mighty fine, if I may say so) to another modder with the time and resources to complete it.

Just a thought,

The Marauder is one of the slickest looking aircraft ever built... and it was used in very large numbers. I guess the Mitchell has overshadowed what would be a perfect candidate for IL2.

That's the stalled project.

I made a start on this, guys, but I wouldn't hold your breath about it being much more complete any time in the next few weeks.

Confusedhock: Why is there no emoticon for a jaw-drop?!

In the meantime, though, I have some questions:
1) Which is the variant that people want to see the most? The wingspan/dihedral/etc. are not a problem to change in the least, it's more a question about the tail turret.
2) Do you know of a source for decent 3-view drawings for that model (the ones I'm using at the moment are not that great)?
3) You skinners out there...do you have any perspective on what kind of mapping you'd prefer? Obviously a cylindrical map would be easiest for this aircraft given the shape of the fuselage, but a planar map obviates the need for strangely-shaped roundels on the skin, etc. The tradeoff is reduced detail on the top of the aircraft.
