[MOD] New Colors - Guest - 17.04.2010

I have already shown this to some people and they gave very positive feedback about it. So here it is.

Its similar like Gapa utility, but gives more natural light and colors. Unfortunately I can't show you any screenshot; because there is no way that I can catch temperature of light of 5500k, so only way to see it is in game (bit it's worth it IMO).

First download this and put it in MODS folder. Be careful not to make double folders when unpack (winrar tends to do that). It is to make land darker.

Then download and install this application “Powerstrip”, I’m using it with Samsung tft monitor and so far it didn't make to the monitor any damage or such, but BE CAREFULL, after all, you do it on your own risk!

When installed, make custom color profile with settings like these in images and start it before starting IL2. I think that the light temperature of 5500k gives it best immersion.

I think this little mod is beyond my limited abilties, though.
Thanks on behalf of those who are more talented!

We’ll manage that Tongue

There are some photos for illustration what I was trying to achieve. Losing too much red color in IL2 and make it more life-like. These are photos because this can’t be shown in screenshots, you can only see it in-game, because of monitors light temperature.

"IL2" images is my try to show how IL2 looks and "Real" are real images and what I'm trying to make. To make it to look closer to that, of course.

Sounds great m8! And nice to see you again Big Grin

It'd be great to see some pictures of this in game, but I know that it is hard t capture. I found the same trouble when using GAPA. I currently have so many GAPA configurations, so it'll be nice to try this.

Works great Avala, thanks! It adds to the emersion value nicely. One note, though it should be obvious to all. It is advisable to do a search for the two modded files which make up this nice little mod, to ensure there are no conflicts. I found I had an existing LandLight.mat file in another mod and had to rename it with a Sav_ prefix. That took care of the conflict and it works like a charm. Good one too, I love the way it makes the sky more realistic.

Few explanations

1. You don’t need to have Gapa for using this. This is independent mod.

2. Files for looking, if there is any conflicts are “CloudShadows.mat” and “LandLight.mat”.

But if there is some problems (and it shouldn’t be) and it is too complicated to search what it is, you don’t have to use that terrain light either. I made it to make land looks more darker and less color saturated then the stock one. You can use just that powerstrip application.

Main difference between Powerstrip and Gapa is that Gapa changes only gamma of your screen and Powerstrip changes gamma and color temperature of your screen. Temperature of 5500k is supposedly color temperature of the day light. That’s why screenshots is of no use, everyone got their monitors set at different color temperatures and screenshot looks different from computer to computer, while in game because of temperature of 5500k it should look the same.

IF YOU ARE NOT SURE THAT YOUR MONITOR CAN CHANGE COLOR TEMPERATURE DON’T USE POWERSTRIP!

I’m using it longer than that. Nothing changed. Only thing is there is some pop up counting few seconds and inform you that you are using Powerstrip when you start the windows. That’s all.

I didn't register it, just downloaded it. Only thing is until you buy it or some such, you get that annoying Tip of the Day thing on your screen every time you boot.

I installed that software last Saturday. It works beautifully and colors in IL2 are astonishing.

Yet, I don't know if it has to do with that software or not, but my PC has died today. This morning, after starting the PC a blue screen reporting a critical error has appeared. It said something about a conflict with a file called something like "nv_p4". Everytime I've tried to restart the PC the message appeared. After so many tries, I've decided to format the Hard Disk and install Windows. In the middle of the installation the PC has turned off and now it doesn't want to start again  I don't know whether it has to do with that program or not, but I'll think twice before installing it again :???: And, believe me, IL2 looks beautiful with it.

Really sorry to hear that. I couldn't answer earlier. I hope that the problem is solved now? That could be because of Powerstrip. “nv” shows that there was some conflict with nvidia driver. That can be especially if graphic chip is onboard (integrated in mother board) or overclocked. If my computer is in case I would reset jumpers on the motherboard (and I can assume that you mb is Asus or Msi, they tend to do that).

That would be extreme case but it can happen, all depends on system and driver. Anyway, here how it should look, images are large so just click on thumbnails to see them in full. Total color tone is not red-green but more greenish-bluish, depends. Also main thing is that color temperature.

Click click on them. Photobucket resized them, it looks better.

It really is beautiful! The only thing is that it seems to conflict with my ATI control-panel, seemingly causing me to make the settings again everytime I set up.
I don't think that there is anything I can really do about it though Wink

- TheGrunch - 25.04.2010

I've tried using it but every time the game actually starts all that happens is that the new colour profile loads until the game actually comes up, and then it resets the colours to the defaults when the game goes to full screen. Sad Probably something to do with ATI cards as philip.ed says.

It's working in game though for me m8 :-? It might be that you have Il-2 set to run in default-colours or something like that...
