Tigershark,

Ths is not only promising, but well worth your time. Like I stated earlier, with the exception of city populations this map is wonderful. The scenery is spectacular. If you are an AVG fan, this map is a MUST have.

Perhaps after Fabianfred populates the cities a bit more it could go to beta and eventually full install. I have also stated before that I am willing to help this map progress in any way possible.

Justin

My main problems with this map lie in the fact that I haven't been able to find ANY suitable photos of airfields or towns in Thailand or Indo-China or burma for the WW2 period....

my airstrips are merely useable and do not represent any realistic strips in this theatre .... unlike the wealth of information available to those building maps of the ETO

We have very limited buildings available to populate the map, a few of the Japanese and Pacific ones are all.....

I refuse to bow to the requirements of the il2 game engine and have all my rivers and lakes at sea level...therefore I cannot place the proper bridges upon the landscape and have to construct my own........ fortunately trains and vehicles will run across the water as if it didn't exist, so a simple runway taxi plate can be laid upon the water to simulate a bridge and it will not impede vehicles or trains

I have not been able to get autopop to work for me ...because I cannot get the actors tools to work....therefore all buildings must be placed by hand or as groups...copied and pasted

an example of the bridgework...

I made the Royal Palace and Wat Po in Bangkok...

I like that bridge. That's a great idea!
Is any part or all of it destructable? What happens when it's bombed?

- Baco1170 - 23.06.2008

That Bridge is pure genious FabianFred.
Very imaginative!

no damage i'm afraid Cry
it is only a couple of the taxi plates...and there is no destruction for runway plates....the side girders are just those railway things....it just looks a bit better than them 'walking on the water'

I am only going to put such bridges at big and important crossings..... there are numerous places near Bangkok where there are roads and rail crossing the canals which i shall have to ignore.

- CzechTexan - 24.06.2008

That's what I figured. Anyhow, at least you have a decent looking bridge and it can be attacked. I guess you can put bomb craters on it when it's hit. That's good 'nuf for me.

You can also try a couple of the VokzalPlatfoms instead of the runways:

What ist wrong with the act-tool?

- Fay King - 24.06.2008

Fabianfred,

I have uploaded my first 4 AVG missions and included the skin pack in the zip. I could only speculate about the airfield layouts as there are no pictures that I can find of the field layouts in '41 and '42. I also tried to keep the layouts minimal for the sake of frame rates.

I hope you all enjoy them.

Justin

p.s. Please keep in mind that these are CO-OP missions and intended to played online.

I haven't tried the train station platforms.......they sit above ground level so i assume that the vehicles will collide with it....need to test in FMB

Probably nothing wrong with actors tool....just i cannot get it to work.....when re-combining

Thanks for the missions mate....

Just to repeat ...and for those who do not know.

If you want to play a co-op mission off-line...just like a single mission...you have two options

1. Use a utility like Quick Mission Tuner ...to select the aircraft you want to pilot...and tick the box for 'Player' on that particular plane...then save to the folder you need

2. on il2 main screen...choose Multiplay....Create new server.....Type= co-op...then open the mission in the co-op folder 1,2,or3 ...then select you plane and fly just like you do on-line

The only real difference between a single and co-op mission is that the single mission has a player a/c selected and the co-op does not.

Just read through this thread to see how Thailand is getting on; looking really good fabianfred; I'll give it a go soon.

Came a cross this comment though, which wasn't so pleasing:

Fay King Wrote:I must say that this map will totally do the AVG justice compared the Burma garbage we were offered with the stock Burma map.

So the Burma map was garbage was it? Just because it represented the Battle of Imphal instead of anything relevant to the AVG? I suppose that every other map in the sim that isn't American-centred is garbage too? Even if the mapmakers give their time and effort for free?

It's a large world my friend, and we're all just a small part of it. Please think before posting next time.

Cheers.

edit :?

- fabianfred - 24.06.2008

Actually this map only covers a tiny bit of Burma so I couldn't claim it did any justice to that theatre.....

Originally there was even less of Burma covered, but someone requested that Rangoon be included...although it only gets a peek in even now

But I believe that a Burma map of more coverage is in the works.....

- Fay King - 24.06.2008

I guess my language was a bit off color. Im sorry if my staement offended you dunkelgrun. :?

- fabianfred - 24.06.2008

I tried your first co-op mission....very nice...especially the evening light and red clouds as they all return for landing....I did not take the squadron leader position but the third flight, and everyone went after the fighters and ignored the bombers...lol
I'm glad you used the Hawk...I do like to open my canopy when i can.... there were a few hiccups with the parking of the japanese bombers..... you need a taxi/park waypoint map for the airbase, to prevent you putting static a/c or other objects where they will cause collisions

I will do a couple for you and put them up

I decided that Mingladon was probably quite a major airbase too, so I made the strip into a double one and I'll tell you when i've posted the new actors static at my site

new dual strip..
