my conf.ini as it was when I changed from RADEON 3800 to GTX 260 in my good old trusty soundmod 9.3. I changed it afterwards many times, but no result. In UP 201 & HSFX 4.1 I left the stock ones anyway.

It's tough to read. Why not just run a dxdiag and post that? I think it generates the same data in text form.

- FANATIC MODDER - 19.04.2010

hmmm...sorry. Never tried that.

I did the check, directX has no problems (no surprise), but is only a directX tool anyway. I have problems with openGL.

Technically, yes, but it provides a lot of information about your computer and its configuration, apart from the DX aspect. Back in the UbiZoo days, it was the standard tool for diagnosing performance problems with the game.

FANATIC MODDER,

The system which you have should allow OpenGL, maybe with some reduced graphics settings.

You need to use Program Settings in the NVIDIA control panel, NOT Global Settings. Only Program Settings with an Executable ( push the ADD button ) will guarantee that your settings will be applied. Some people have drivers which gliche in applying settings. This will prevent that. It worked for me. You need to make an Executable file (push the ADD button) to connect this Profile to the IL-2 version which you want with these graphics settings. Here is where you should select the il2fb.exe as your Executable. Don't worry about finding the word Executable in the NVIDIA system. Executable is a technical term which means that something is a target file. When that target file is opened, then a program will take certain actions. This is probably most of your computer problem with IL-2. Your configuration might not be applied until you make the settings in Program Settings.

NVIDIA Control Panel

>Maximum prerendered frames could be reduced if you have input device delay-otherwise, keep it at 8.

>Texture filtering should be set to High Quality. Since my GeForce 7000 series card can handle it, then so can your GTX 260.

>Trilinear Optimization-the ON should only be used as a last resort. Turn it OFF for now.

Test the changes, mentioned here, and let me know about the improvement. How much did it help?

- Fireskull - 19.04.2010

FANATIC MODDER,

Make sure that your Sound Setup in the IL-2 Hardware Setup has sound sampling at 22,050 hz, not 44,100. Lowering it will give you better sound and increase performance of IL-2.

If you still have no improvement, then reduce both Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering by one level and report the result here.

- Fireskull - 19.04.2010

FANATIC MODDER,

The next thing to try after testing the previous advice is this:

conf.ini file

Effects=0

Try this and restart IL-2. If no improvement, then do this next:

Reduce your resolution to 1024 x 768 if you don't mind the change. See if this helps performance in OpenGL.

- FANATIC MODDER - 20.04.2010

I tried all these -expect from the sound- already. I re-did it again now, just in case i did something wrong. It seems that nothing changes. The only thing that affects it is the resolution - but even in a pathetic 640X480, the animation "cracks" a lot and is not really playable. Of course it's not the system, the same one with the ATI 3800 worked, and it's not the conf ini, I have here numerous installations (I tweaked my old AAA 9.3,UP 201 & HSFX 4.1 conf.ini files numerous times), I don't see any other solution than format my PC (or upgrade to windows 7) or do the unthinkable: I still have in the box my old RADEON 3800....

Thanks very much for your effort Fireskull

- 8FS_Bulau - 20.04.2010

You could try some different graphic drivers, either more up-to-date if there are any, or older versions, and see if it helps.
Your resolution is not too big, but I would definitely tone down the AF...I think 8x AF might be a bit too much. I think the problem, though, may be something more fundamental, as the game should run well in OpenGL on your hardware.

I used to run the game on Athlon 3500+, nVidia 7800GS AGP, 1600x1200, perfect landscape, and got playable frame rates, but I think I had maybe 2X AA and 2X AF to get it.

- FANATIC MODDER - 20.04.2010

I put AF at "off", but still the same problems...

Motherboard must allow Optimization of the Graphics Card. - Fireskull - 20.04.2010

Good day, FANATIC MODDER

Your CPU seems to be the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.2 Ghz. Your card is the GTX 260 and should render OpenGL with Perfect Water, though you might need to sacrifice a little in other graphics characteristics. Make certain that you have the Second Generation PhysX activated.

PhysX capability should be enabled in your card according to the following information of this link:

http://www.nvidia.com/docs/IO/55506/GeF ... _Brief.pdf

Graphics driver choice can have a noticeable impact on the rendering of IL-2. I agree with 8thFS_Bulau that you need to consider using another driver. Installing a driver from the past which is too old for newer game Optimization might be the best for IL-2.

Try different drivers from about 2006 - 2008. Also, the GeForce 192.xxx - 196.xxx drivers have fixed the IL-2 issues for some people. Especially, try the 196.xxx driver. Scan the download driver for malware and test for corruption of files.

Make sure that your system is updated to the lastest DirectX 10.

Your CPU and GPU are capable of running IL-2 fairly well. That fact drew my attention to your motherboard.

Your MoBo seems to be an Asus, but I could not get enough information until now about it from your posts. Can you provide all the specifications on your motherboard? I need very detailed specifications-all of them. If it is the case that your motherboard is not high enough in performance for a GTX 260, then that would explain the under performing of your system.

The need for a good performing motherboard is stated in the details of the above link, near the end.

Sometimes a motherboard which allows a particular GPU to be connected will not quite be capable of allowing Optimization of the graphics card because of the limitations of the motherboard itself. In the case of a series of graphics cards, early ones in the series can be a perfect match with a motherboard. As the performance of the graphics card series increases, sometimes the early motherboard is outpaced by the card development.
In other situations, a graphics card will not be used to its fullest performance on an older motherboard, but is still an improvement over the customer's previous graphics card. Unfortunately, your graphics card is far under achieving.

Unproven at this time, it is possible that an earlier version of the GTX 260 would have done just fine on your motherboard, but yours might not be an ideal compatibility.

Heya All. I just got rid of my 8800GTS 512s in SLI and got a 4870 as a stop grade for my future 5870/gtx480. Since I am using ATi for the first time in this sim life, in fact in my life, I would like some one make me Open GL section of conf.ini at the highest settings for ATi. I will let the person that knows the conf much better than me, so I do not screw it up.

BTW, this is a 1GB version of the card pushing a 24 inch 1080P HD monitor.

Hi, bro

I have the best possible conf.ini configuration in this tech topic.

In my Final Phase conf.ini section on page 3 (See Table of Contents if needed) of this tech Sticky topic, I have all the command lines in conf.ini configured for Best Image Quality and Maximum Settings. Look for the section called "Best Image Quality" conf.ini settings. The quickest way to transfer the configuration is to take a copy of your conf.ini file, delete the OpenGL section, Cut/Paste the Best Image Quality configuration as a replacement into the empty OpenGL section (Keep the title of the OpenGL section). Delete the comments that I made in the section. Remember to restart to apply the new configuration.

Many hours of research into a bunch of websites as well as much experimentation resulted in my recommendation.

Enjoy!
