To join the brain storm.....

1. WINTER CAMOUFLAGE - will make water to be treated like ICE ( no splashes, no hydroplane take offs) ... no mater if you manage it to look like watter ( via texture) !!!!

2. buildings are stored in actors.static file as they are all runways (so changing texture for airport changes only surrounding land)

@ Bee ..... i'll try your solution for changing runways from green to ... well not green for my desert Crimea.... if it work ..... beers are on me. Big Grin

@ Lowfighter: nice to "read" you again m8

lowfighter Wrote:About changing the objects to winter:

set in load.ini:

CAMOUFLAGE = WINTER

The runways, parking places etc will still remain green...

No, it doesn't operate. Camouflage allow default skin for aircraft.
You might choose between SUMMER, WINTER and DESERT (for pacific & desert map).

try to drop bomb on the watter when CAMOUFLAGE = WINTER is set on! It doesn't work .... that is why original Murmansk winter is set to SUMMER also

OK thanks for this informations !!!
But the objects keep in summer version although you write CAMOUGLAGE=WINTER. Are you OK with this ?

you didn't read my post : all objects( and reference for them) are stored in actors_static file ( inside map folder) for now i didn't find the way to edit it.

Yeah, I remember Ian Boys mentioned this limitation when the Kurland & murmansk winter maps came out. Skin selection effected the water type.

Ah, sorry for misleading with "my" camuflage". So you can't do anything about the objects on Crimea, sad...Hm, you know, already had 2 beers and I think there's a way, but it's a bit too much work, also you have to enable it ONLY when you'd play winterised maps. Otherwise you'll start a mission in the desert and you'll see snow on the roofs lol. Not worth...it would be like taking all objects present on the map and put their winter textures in the "files"...

Zo don't be too harsh with R One, his english is not so good. But it's improving

Started painting one of the empty maps, added a little town, some cropfields nearby and the most important thing, started painting an airfield in different colours, the area around the parking place has a different texture than the rest... But it's very time consuming because working in the dark.

Sir,yes,Sir! Big Grin Big Grin

did you manage to elevate the ground jet? have any luck with changing runways (color) itself ?

stay well

Not that far with ground elevation and runways, if we only have some prog to take the height map and display it as 3D, allowing us to modify it and then put it back as a tga. Cry

The actual airport icon (the little crossed runway in white) which appears on the map....and to which a plane is 'locked' for t/o and landing......... can this be removed from an unwanted airstrip....or put in a new place to make a new airfield?

the single one used for float planes.....and usually a double one for airstrip (but not always)

I know a human pilot can land anywhere...and t/o....although it is easier in snow because it is smoother, whereas grass is often too bumpy for t/o or to land wheels down..

The AI need a proper TOL point or they will not land there...although they have no difficulty t/o from bumpy ground

any ideas about this guys?

I know that the I-16 and I-153 can only take off from airfields (there was a bug on the Italy map at the Northern airfield that highlighted this - maybe you can find some clues there.)

It's not that they can only take-off....but their engine can only be started whilst on the ground at an airfield.....if it stops in mid-air it cannot be restarted

IRL did they need a special starting truck or something?

Yes i belive the I16's did need special starting equipment.

- fabianfred - 08.11.2007

maybe one of those shotgun cartridge type of starters which can only be placed in externally
