A non-mod related problem, but I've been using CERT_AI mod since the first version and it creates a far better immersion with better AI dogfight, so I hope the mod can resolve my issue - I'm mostly an offline player and many of the campaigns I play require the highest rank selected to work normally.
However, if I don't engage autopilot for the first couple of waypoints the squadron/schwarm/eskadrilya etc. won't form on my wing and don't take any orders. They simply follow the flight plan (excluding my own wing of 4 planes, they behave normally and follow orders).
It's not a very big issue when you have many waypoints, but if there's only one of two to the target I have to either fly w/ autopilot or I can't command my squadron (and they usually get butchered). That's especially bothersome on long missions, which become a tiresome autopilot joyride...
Can you try to find a fix for this, so that the 3rd, 4th, 5th and so on groups of planes follow orders after take-off even if autopilot isn't switched on?
Anyway, thanks for the great mod! Offline flying is definately a better experience now!

Finally new version, I was sick of the spazzing planes on mountains.
Good job sir, thank you sir, and thank you again sir.
Have I already told you that you did good job?
Oh, and thank you sir.

I know exactly what issue you're talking about. I've figured out a few semi-hacks that most of the time let you retain control of your other flights.
Here's what I do. Right after takeoff, I issue order for all but my own flight to rejoin followed by cover me. If you just do rejoin, they proceed to their waypoint.
This works until you engage in the first fight. After that, rejoin/cover me does not seem to work anymore, at best it works half the time. So the other workaround I use is to issue return to base followed by Tab-8-1 which is "send fighters my way," which causes flights 2-4 to rejoin into your formation. Issuing return to base first is important though, otherwise they won't rejoin.
Another trick I figured is to organize your flight so that you're higher a rank than the leaders of all other flights, and have them, respectively, be of a higher rank pilot 3 in their flight; and similarly, pilot 3 should outrank his wingman (pilot 4). I use DCG, so sometimes I have to tweak flight order manually, not sure how DGEN does this.

Cert,
I have a BIG issue with my flight going off and attacking things without being ordered. This is detrimental to the dscipline of the armed forces and often results in them doing stupid things that get them killed.
Can you fix this?

Don't know how long you've been into IL2,but that has always been an issue with AI.
It might not be in the area the AI_MOD is being worked on.
It has been practically impossible to do anything with flight groups tactically, because the AI are programmed at core level (what I guess) to go after other aircraft enemy within a certain distance.

Just to congratulate this great work. A very, very necessary thing for offliners like me.

Just came out of an extremely intense dogfight in a Spitfire Vb against Me-109Fs. On some occasions I had to drop both flaps and gear to stay behind them in the scissors, while the AI had at the same time deployed flaps quite intelligently, rapidly slowing down to catch me unawares.
This is, without a doubt, the most important mod for offliners like myself. It really transforms the game, by adding a lot more variety to it. I've experienced occasions, where the enemy fighter was completely unaware of me, till I opened fire, to rolling scissors and vertical maneuvering. I've also come on several occasions very close to being shot down (The one you don't see...). And all this in the scope of a single day. Yesterday, I hadn't even heard of your mod ( thanks to Brennus at SimHQ forums for posting about it).
In short, kudos! I really hope you are continuing to support this. Excellent work!

I totally love this mod: the AI is MUCH more challenging now.
I did notice however that sometimes planes keep flying with a missing wing, or other parts, like in the image below: I followed him for 10 minutes, and it just kept flying..
Minor bug imho: it only happens sometimes and is far outweighed by the improved ai tactics
Not even sure if it is this mod that causes this: I have more then 50 mods installed :?

Are you sure you have that isolated well enough to blame on the AI MOD?
There are alot of mods that could do that

I don't think it's AI related, either.
When the crew bails out, the plane controls seem to keep stuck to the last given input...
I have seen, from time to time, crewless planes wondering about till they run out of fuel since the very first day of FB...
Flying without the hole tale section is another issue though , but IMHO you can't blame the AI for it...

I am not sure it is this mod, but I first noticed it after installing this mod.
If I am the only one, then it is probably not related, is a combination ofmod, or must be something else.. :?
Anyhow: it's not a big issue 8)

Certificate,
My main interest of WW2 is the Night Bomber Campaign, and the battle between RAF bomber Command and the Nachtjagd.
Hopefully some time in the future we may have a working radar for il2, with this in mind i was wondering if you could make a version of your mod that tones down the situational awareness of all planes, to simulate night flying.
At the moment AI planes can spot you from 3+ km, at night this should be reduced drastically.
I do not know if it is possible but maybe different planes could have different settings, ie single seat fighters should be practically blind at night, while bombers and twin engined fighters could have better awareness.
Also maybe a couple of different variations, so that early in the war when there was little to no Airborne radar, planes would be fairly blind, then improve as the war progresses, and technology improves.
A few different types could be made that could be swapped in and out of the game as required.
just a few ideas
thanks for your work

Nice Work!.. No problems noted so far...
Is there any way to make the AI behave more realistically in the traffic pattern? Or is how they recover unchangeable?

@Panzerkeil: are u using an ATI?
Try to turn of "catalyst AI"
I know a similar prob...making my cockpit invisable.
- panzerkeil - 20.05.2009
Nephris, thanks for the advice; but this is not a graphic issue.
The parts had actually been shot off by AAA (I saw it falling to the ground), and the pilots bailed out, but instead of crashing the plain remained flysing as if the autopilot was still working
hock:
Seen this happen with other planes too; sometimes (not always) when a plane looses its wing it won't spiral to the ground, but gently glides down as if only the engine stopped working.
Most of the times it works ok though (meaning the plane spins down)
