hey guys. my 1st post in this thread.
RE: airfield layout
Durring the construction of the slot map we took the airfield diagrams and adjusted thier size to be to scale. we then built the airfield over it.
the technique makes building them quicker.
it's just a tip, i don't know if you know it already and thought it wouldn't hurt to mention it. keep up the good work!

very nice ...if you can get it!
the Mingladon airstrip is the ONLY one I could get a diagram of....this theatre isn't as well documented as the ETO

Hey, dont forget Moulmein
...
LoL.
- fabianfred - 23.07.2008
I have made the runways at Mingladon and Toungoo longer....
cannot see anything wrong at Moulmein :?
and I have made a new texture from the sk one which is a better colour match with the landscape instead of the dull looking fields...(you may notice it in the screenshots)
toungoo..

Should be a big 1000x300 airstrip or gravel. Not the standard runway.
And that is the uphill im getting in that field. (Perfect mode) with patch 2.a
Looking better everday, Mingaladon with bigger runways is perfect, nice adding the shelters.

the normal length for runways in il2 seems to be 1,600m. so that one will be quite short.....the japs probably didn't base any bombers there then, but flew them from Bangkok or Chiangmai until Mingladon was in their hands

This is my fav shot, by far!! Well done...
It has a very nice assortment of ground textures... Very nice... and that airfeild is very nice as well
TS

That airfield is an actual texture which can be painted on the ground....which is good...but it can only be facing the one direction as textures cannot be rotated...and it need my invisible Kronstadt plates over it to make it useable for take-off/landing

Looking Fantastic! Love the Textures!

Well, the strips size were quite small then, only a few airfields were prepared for bomber operations.
The sizes were.
-Lampang 1200m x ???m
-Tak (Raheng) 500m x 50m
-Mudon 800m x 50m
-Moulmein 1000m x 300m
-Phitsanulok 1000m x 100m
-Nakhon Sawan 1000m x 100m
-Dong Muang (Bangkok) 1200m x 1500m
-Lop Buri 800m x 600m
-Toungoo 1350m x ???m
Lol, thats why i said "big" 1000x300, its big compared to the other fields. Probably Only Dong Muang was situable for "heavy" bombers (Ki21s). Bad we dont have the Ki30s. And actually some operated from Cambodia.
Dont forget the Satellites of Mingaladon.
Hlegu and Hmawbi. Only Hlegu could be fitted in the map. (Blenheims operated from that strip) Size of both is unknow.

Posted these in page 14...
Marked in Green are the airstrips. Some have the size under it. Ok, those numbers could mean other thing ..but no!. Check Moulmein, it says 1000x300 under it. The diagram of the base shows exactly the same dimensions. Sooo, that must be the field size.
Moulmein is now in Japanese hands, and Rangoon and all its airfields are within easy reach of the Nakajima Ki-27 fighter. Mingaladon of course is the main Rangoon airfield. Hmawbi is the RAF dispersal field known to the Allied pilots as Highland Queen. Hlegu was known as Zayatkwin to the RAF and was the base for its Bristol Blenheim bombers.
