Re: Map building tutorial - nounette - 03.04.2011

Hi Kevin,
I've got a new problem Sad

I've been putting trees in my cities in order to improve the map and now I realize that while everything looks great in map building mode, in normal Il2 the "rows of trees" object is not shown (palm trees appear correctly).

Do you have an idea of what could it be ... i've put mainly rows of trees in the map Sad

Thanks,
N

Re: Map building tutorial - kevinp - 03.04.2011

Hi Nounette

If you can actually see the Row of Trees in Map Builder mode then they should appear in the regular game also. The only time I have trouble is when I have Forest = 3 in the Map Builder game. Then I can place the trees on the map but I can only see their icons. They are saved to the actors.static but wont appear in the regular game.

Open up one of the stock maps & see if the tree objects are visible. Do it in the regular game & also the Map Building game.

Re: Map building tutorial - nounette - 04.04.2011

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your answer.

I have forest=2 in the map builder.
I've just made a test and if I put forest=2 in the IL2 conf.ini, then I see the trees.
If I put forest=3 either in IL2 or map builder, trees are not shown (not even as icons).
This is only true for the "row of trees" object. Tree maps and "palm tree" objects are always shown with forest=2 or forest=3.
The wood texture is shown as overlapped layers in both cases but you don't see the trees if you position the view at land level.

Is all that a normal behavior?

Cheers,
N

Re: Map building tutorial - kevinp - 04.04.2011

Hi nounette

That's all normal behaviour except for the Row of Trees not being visible. Go over to the Hardware Setup window in the game & check to see if Landscape Detail is set to Perfect. If it's less than Perfect this may have some effect on whether trees show up.

If you still have no luck then I don't know what could be wrong.

Re: Map building tutorial - nounette - 04.04.2011

Hi Kevin,

I'm in perfect mode. It seems that my row of trees are working correctly with forest=2 instead of forest=3.
I'll try to see if I can edit my actors.static and replace the row of trees by another tree object of my own.
If it's to hard to do, then I'll give up and put in the instructions of the map that the trees can be seen with forest=2 Sad

Cheers,
N

Re: Map building tutorial - bigans - 05.04.2011

Dear Kevinp,
I'm working togheter Maraz & other italian guys to build a wide mediterranean map, including half Sardinia, the whole of Sicily, Malta, the whole of Tunisia and a big piece of Algeria.
As my friend has written:
viewtopic.php?f=70&t=31686
We need to overcome the merging of objects and to place an object above the other.
Could you help us?

Thank you

Re: Map building tutorial - kevinp - 06.04.2011

Hi bigans

Can you show me a picture of what your harbour looks like. There are several ways to solve this problem but I need to see what you are doing to decide on the best option.

Re: Map building tutorial - bigans - 07.04.2011

Yes Kevin,
first picture Catania's Harbour, you can see that I place a lighthouse on a pier, but the merging feature don't let to see the low side of the lighthouse, in that case 2 steps/stairs. We try to use the comand F4 MouseRight=Zmove but the object makes little jumps and don't reaches the right height:

Second picture Messina's harbour, we want to place rails on the piers, but we aren't able to do using the comand F4 MouseRight=Zmove

You can see that I correctly put the rails, but in 3d look at the result

The rails disappears as merging into the piers...

Thanks for the help you'll give me Big Grin

Re: Map building tutorial - kevinp - 08.04.2011

Hi bigans

The Light house is fairly easy to fix but the Rails are going to take me a day or three to sort out. Can you tell me what MOD version you are using, is it UP201?

Cheers, Kevin

Re: Map building tutorial - bigans - 09.04.2011

The mod I use is HSFX version 4.2, could I send to you the link where you can download the beta map, we are using for our campaign?
It's a work in progress map, so we build areas depending on the hystorical mission we want to play.

Ciao

Re: Map building tutorial - kevinp - 10.04.2011

Hi bigans

Yes please, send me the link to your map so I can do some testing.

Re: Map building tutorial - nounette - 02.05.2011

Hi Kevin,
I've just installed v4.10.1 with HSFX 5.0.1 and I see that we can put runway lights and request to turn them on to the control tower.
I've searched for the light objects in the FMB and inside the static.ini but I couldn't find them.
Do you know how to add lights to a runway?
Thanks,
N

Runway lights - kevinp - 03.05.2011

Hi nounette
In the FMB the runway lights are in the Stationary Objects, near the bottom of the list.

Cheers, Kevin

Re: Map building tutorial - nounette - 03.05.2011

Hi Kevin,
Are the ones named "light type" 1 to 4? Are all the same (I've tested number 1 but nothing happened) ? Is it possible to add directly the lights through Map Building or only in Mission Building?
Thanks,
N

Re: Map building tutorial - felix_the_fat - 03.05.2011

Hi Kevin
I'm so proud - I got Manam to function on the first attempt!
I want to thank you for this great tutorial-it's given me some means of [eventually] returning something to the Il2 community - who've given me such great entertainment.
I cant make aircraft - but I love maps just as much! So, thanks to your tutorial, i will hope to share a new map "shortly".
As my lovely wife says: "the quicker the better!" I tell her "... 2 weeks, dear" - but she doesnt get it!
yours ,Felix
ps and thanks to Oleg of course.
