BTW mr. Redko. It would be great if you could make a tutorial for us noobs about how to make those textures, I would like to learn.

Humm...

i don't wan't to be a teacher but i was thinking to make a kind of tutorial even if i don't like the term. i would see it better as a collection of advices, i don't think there is a method really. people would be really disappointed discovering how easy it was to "create" the mountain texture. i followed the video tutorial found here, that's all. choose the texture, make a 1024x1024 resolution square, desaturate...and paint. that's all.

there 2 little things that sometime i could "criticize" on some new maps = the lack of coherence. i mean by that if we want photorealism ALL textures must work AS ONE on the map. sometime i see texture with differents levels of resoltution, 512 + 1024 for exemple. this is not a good idea because when you fly over it you see the difference of quality and it breaks the continuity of the texture. Second there is too much differences in terms of contrast and saturation. all textures must have the same level.

this is my failure in Okinawa V1, contrast in city textures is too hight compared to forest textures. i have to fix it. But most of all, there is still too saturated colours on textures today. when your textures are desaturated they appear better in the far, giving a space and void feeling.

but the real "secret" is manual painting....that's all. with manual painting you can get natural transitions in textures, for exemple from the top of the mount to plains. if your hand is ok now Kap take a fly over the volcanoes chains for exemple and look how the progression from the top to bottom works. you can get this only with manual painting

to resume...if you have natural capacities to draw in real life.....you will have an advantage for this special part of mapmoding.

but paint all by the hands take many time! this is why we still need talented people like you, agracier, avala, vikking, porto and the others to still create the maps. others will bring the final touch with repaints. it's the better way to get faster better maps. work as a team.

ok if have time i could make this "tutorial"...or better make my nexts projects as a step by step thread in order to show how all this works. i have no problem to "reveal" my secrets.

and if you have questions just ask. your are wellcome Smile
That would be create. My hand is OK. I've been at work and it feels quite good.
I'm not that good with photoshopping. I van do basic things, but that's about it. many of those default maps would look much better with real good textures. When you are ready, i will be your first student.
PS! I can't even make seamless textures...
I'm pretty decent with drawing cartoons nad stuff. I've been studied 4 years moviemaking and i used to work about 14 yers as a freelancer photographer/jpurnalist around the globe before i returned back to my homevillage. I did some tours at warzones. Like former Yuogoslavia and Africa. I have spent times at South East Asia and India/Nepal. later i lived a short period at Israel. So i kinda know how the textures should look, don't ya think?Hahaha
And beautifull girls without any textures

For what quick missions? the name of the file is redko_japan1, but if you installed it as replacement of the stock map you can call it japan1...and in this case no need to ad on all.ini the line redko_japan1 redko_japan1/load.ini

Hum interresting. you must be an interresting person to speak with. I did 4 years of art studies and history of art studies. i'm a photo fan too. this is why i use my maps to make pics, it's a kind of crossover photography and games. i wanted for a little time to be a war photographer. do you have a website for your pics? i would like see it if you have one.

Instead of using "Post Reply" in the left bottom corner you should use "quote" in the top right corner of that particular comment. And if you wanna quote just one line and not the whole story you can delete everything in between
and
Cheers.

Hi people.
i just wanted to post some pics from Phil_K campain over Kyushu. I had to use to stock actor static, with the new one i get a message "string out of range". these old campain is not compatible for the moment. Someone will have to create new missions compatible with the new actor.static in order to take advantage of all the populating i made on this map, fields, cities....Haven't tested Fly! quick missions for the moment...

I tried to give a vintage aspect to these pics, like it were taken by diapo slides. Enjoy

I love the map. Only thing that is really sad, is the fact that i have no change to survive, since i always fly as a Japanese pilot over Kyushu map. And it is virtually not possible to shoot down any of those B-29Confused, unless cheating by using uber shinden Cry

yea i see what you mean. i like to fly as japanese too. anymay we need more missions to take advantage of the map. we should create some non historical scenarios to get out of that kind of missions agains B29 we know how it finish..i mean you in a wood box    .

in the mission i played this afternoon and who inspired me those pics, japanese planes were wiped out very easily. i will mod some Phil_k mission to make them more interresting for the japanese point of view.

did you tryed Fly! quick missions for this map ?

mising object - beckorinho - 04.03.2010

Hi redko,

first of all: GRETA REPAINT ! I'really enjoy your work and looking forward to more maps that get touched by your magic hands!

But I have a prob with this map: can't save missions in FMB. Cause: one missing object

buildings.House$FordIslandTower

Do you know where I could get this object? Or could you please upload this missing object? I already thoroughly seached the forum here on AAA but can't find a map or objects pack that contains this FordIslandTower. I also checked the UI 1.1 and 1.2 objects. No hit.

Thanks again and lots of free time for your future work. :newwink:

Cheers, beckorinho

I have the stock mission file for the dgen campaigns which uses the japan1 map a little bit tuned Big Grin

Here is the result: Copy and paste it into the opsJapan.dat file in your dgen folder, backup the old version befor doing this.

that
