Keep it quiet. If Oleg gets word of this then that'll be another 2 years in development Big Grin

By the way, Storm of War: Battle of Britain will require DirectX 11 hardware, especially graphics cards and updated Operating System. I am going into that stage of getting ready, too.

1C: Maddox Games is delayed partly because of waiting for DirectX 11 implementation into the simulation with testing while using the latest ATI and NVIDIA VGAs.
Oleg has said SoW will run in DirectX 9 but will use 10 and 11 when present.

Hi,

Getting all the wonderful eye candy will require DirectX 11.

Possibly, but apart from the last couple of updates, all the screenshots we have seen have been DX 9.

Still, you may be right, after all the reflective glass as seen in the Bf109 cockpit only turned up in the most recent shots.

Yes, that's exactly it. The latest NVIDIA cards now have DirectX 11 and I'm almost sure that Oleg had the guys test the Bf-109 with them. This is indeed probably what we're seeing.

From a technical perspective, this would seem to make sense in order to prepare for the big expansion in features with DirectX 11.

and how would one go about getting dx11? would we have to pay money for the upgrade?

DX11, like all other MS updates, will be an automatic D/L.
Unfortunately for users of Windows XP, they will be left out in the cold much the way they were with DX10.

So we'll have to upgrade to what...Vista? Tongue

Re: BoB releasing date .... - {HVY-E}Jinxx - 13.06.2010

In order to use DX10+ you must be using Windows Vista - Windows 7.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

On a brighter note, Windows 7 is ROCK SOLID!

I've run both Vista 64 and Win7 64 (Ultimate for both) and Windows 7 is much more stable and takes up a lot less overhead (memory wise) than Vista did. If you're going to have to upgrade for the new DX, then upgrade to Win 7.

Forgive me for taking this thread just a bit sideways.I am a Windows XP user,& no PC whiz...is the download & instal of Windows 7 a difficult deal ( I mean more than just parting with the purchase price...?)
Can I do it without a degree in Computer Science?

You're forgiven just this once.
FireSkull, put the bull whip and flail away.......

As to your question,

Yes! Windows 7 is perhaps the easiest install Microsoft has ever come up with. Worst case scenario is that you will have to install some new drivers yourself because your hardware is still waiting on Win 7 drivers.

In order to upgrade to Windows 7, you have to install an equivilent bit version or better.
ie. Currently running Windows XP Pro x32. You MUST install Windows 7 x32 Professional or better. That means no Home/Basic version for you. I run Win 7 Ultimate on all my systems anyway.

If you have any other questions, you can PM myself or Fireskull.

S!

I hope it isn't going to be a second "Duke-Nukem Forever".

Re: BoB releasing date .... - Fireskull - 14.06.2010

Good day,

Yes, all this just reinforces the awareness of why Oleg made the decision to wait for SoW release:

1) DirectX 11 is vastly superior in potential features over anything previous.

2) Windows 7 is by far the best and easiest Operating System released by Microsoft.

3) ATI and NVIDIA now have the lastest State of the Art technology available to gaming and simulation developers such as 1C: Maddox Games.

Added to this, I expect that probably we will see the new 3D Engine Graphics display like we are seeing in the motion picture theatres and latest personal computer games. Microcrsoft, Dreamworks, and NVIDIA already make this technology available to developers in computer form, so the option certainly is at least on the table for Oleg Maddox.

Hence, the wise decision by Oleg to continue Research and Development in Storm of War in anticipation of these fantastic technologies.

As for the Windows 7, you need the disk to install it and read the instructions from the Microsoft website. It's amazing how easy it has become. Be sure to back up your current system and all things that you want to keep. I have read about guys who intall the new system on another drive, test it, then uninstall the old one to be sure to have something running in case something goes wrong. It would be better to back up everything on you current OS on another disk and install the new OS where it should be in your original disk. The other round about ways that people are doing it are not necessary with Win 7. The Windows 7 is so reliable and easy that a straight installation after backup of data is all you need.

Okay guys, back on topic! Big Grin
