Quote:MrJolly , my advice is to release it initially for the aircraft that already have the 3d model of the sight.
It seems that historically it was mostly used on FW-190s firstly with Fw-190 A-8s and then with the Me-262. It seems the Do-335 was also proposed to use it. I'm looking for some reliable sourcess concerning this.
Another point that has to be made, is that it was used mostly experimentally, and was never in widespread use. So it's in no way comparable to the wide use of the feranti sight by the Spitfires/P-51s/P-47s . Thus it all comes down to whether the individual virtual pilot wants to download it.
Is the conclusion you've reached about the appearance of the reticle historical or is it just a speculation?
thx - for info - im still unsure about this one - on one hand it dosnt appear to be factory fitted - but on the other it definitly seemed to be in use. Now i could drop the project & make some happy but i would also get sooo much flak from the people who say it should be available & also does it seem fair that if the allies have them available to them that so should axis - but its so important to me that its historical - i like to think thats what we are about here at AAA :?
Quote:Mr.Jolly,can you add the new german gunsight to the FW-190 A-8,9+FW-190 D-9 /early 'n late/?
Cos in the servers and online wars,we can find very rare a Ta-152 /let's not mention about the Ta-183 .../We hardly get even a Me-262 there. So if you add it to the Ta-152 or Ta-183...It will be useless.Noone will be able to use it somewhere /only on the arcade servers,'n such like the AAA server/.
Pls fit the Antons from 8 to 9;Dora 9 Early and Late;Me-109 K-4 early and late /you may add it if you want to G-14 too..This is my personal christmas wish / with the new gyro.So we can use it.
Thanks.
It looks perfecly ingame, but can you get it a little bit higher?
It'll be very hard to lead fire on target with this "obstacle" infront of the gyro.
the hieght is right if we move the sight will be off -its in exactly the right spot - this is where the other sights are! - sorry but its gota stay there
Gringo lets get one thing straight ... im not going to add this sight to an aircraft that did not have it historically - we dont want to create a cheat now do we  .

Pls pls pls pls pls.
At the end of the war Germany sent in the air everything she got, including G-10's,G-14's too. They reequiped them with something new and sent them in the air.At the end of the war the life of the luftwaffe pilots was not so long. Most of them were ex. bomber pilots, passed trough a month of fighter training. They were the easy kills for the allies...That's why there are no big evidence for the german planes at the end of the war,cos most of them were destroyed...Noone had the time to write stories and make photo's for the IL-2 '46 new german gyro gunsight!

FW-190 A-9, 1944
FW-190 A-8, 1944

about the 152H, ,personnaly (my opinion only) it "could" be added too, the plane beeing a PURE very-very high altitude interceptor.
on the152C i would not: because it was an "all around jabo-fighter plane" and not an intercpetor
the D9-44: nope medium altitude fighter
the A8: only if possible to add it ONLY with the R2 configuration.(because the only one historical)
the A9
ame as A8R2 even if the A9 is a high altitude plane (hum  ), anyway, the A8 and the A9 would have been replaced by jets or heavy fighters like the Do335 if the war was still on after may45....what if....what if....

mr Jolly is the gyro sight that you have created based on a photograph or is it your own interpretation?
I found this. Very low resolution but I think this part shows the reticle and the diamonds?
I'm asking some questions on another forum concerned with the aircraft that used the Askania. One of the moderators there is a late war luftwaffe expert, he has interviewed numerous luft pilots, has access to original documents and is an aviation author.
I'm counting on getting a reply from him.
Also, some points:
a) There doesn't seem to be any evidence that the He-162 A-2 used the gyro.
b)Don't forget to have the option of 'caged gyro' so one can revert to the normal reticle. This should be a historically correct function.
c) I think when this becomes available there should be a way to uninstall it easily from each seperate aircraft, if this is possible. That way if one decides he wants a more 'generic' version of his fighter he can easily go back to the original revi.
I hope i'm more help than hindrance! I'm just brainstorming here. Keep up the good work!
This is getting exciting! 8)

Some excellent info coming out here on this 'rare' piece of kit.. I'm enjoying the hunt for info.
But please do not put them on any aircraft that we cannot fairly say had them historicaly.
- deMolay - 07.12.2007
I would suggest to put it on following aircrafts:
A8
D9 (both, 44 and late)
Ta 152H
Me262A 1a
Ta 183
Trusting in several reports that was posted here, we can assume that as well I/JG300 ( 200 gunsights in A8 ) as JV44 (D9 `44) were been provided with the EZ42. Undisputed were Ta183, ME262A 1a and Ta152H I think. This will also limit the types of aircrafts in an acceptable set and online relevant would be only A8 and D9 anyway.

Mr Jolly - the aircraft you suggested seem perfect to me.
The 109 K4 should remain the way it is - the C3 version could get it for the single purpose of making it the distinct, final 109.
It not entirely unthinkable that in the given time it had been fitted into some.
As for the reticle textures - what are you planning to do?
Do you want to first release the package and I will make an additional mod to enhance it or do you want to include it into the initial release?

Awesome ! thx
can you post a bigger picture of it ?
actually i dont think its the actual sight :?

I agree with you because according to docs related to the He-162, concerns were expressed regarding the strong inferiority of the He-162 in the gunsight, as the EZ 42 was (beside of two prototypes at JG 1) passed entirely to the -262 program until april 45.

okk great work everyone keep the info flooding in !
what we really need is a pic of the actual reticle

ok above is the new one using your picture but problem is its fairly tricky rotating it although i think i could do it with some time hock:

That's bloody good mate...
- Metatron - 07.12.2007
Hey that looks exceptional. The thing is - I think you just might have got it almost right! Apparently the German device was inspired by captured Ferantis! Very cool.

ok i got it rotated !
