Unfortunately most of this will never be seen (except the bit of sprue on the side of the chair, which I'm glad I won't be able to see). The pics were taken 2 days ago, now its a lot more complete - about 3/4 of the way through the build, and its got its undercoat of brown, and has bits of green camo in places. I'm gonna make it into a 610 Squadron one, if I can make up stencils for the codes.

Why is my 'Matt' Dark Earth more glossy than matt? It isn't QUITE dry, its sticky, but, not wet, yet its shiny as hell. Will it go matt? Is there a way to dull it down?

rigamortiz, spray it with DullCote if you can get some.
It may take a couple of coats so do not put it on too thick.
Is the dark earth enamel or acrylic? I once got some acrylic flat that dried gloss, maybe just a mislabeled container?
- carosel43 - 15.05.2008
chances are if the paint is shiny you have not mixed it enough, i used to have that problem when i was being lazy but i now mix more thoroughly

Enamel takes a while to dry. Also be weary of the word "matt" on enamel paint containers. It just means its less glossy than gloss. What you need to look for is "flat". I had a similar problem with Humbrol paints a while back.

rigamortiz...Yup...Dullcoat should give you a nice "matt" finish. And...I'm sure you would have thought of this yerself... but if the windscreen is already glued in place, don't forget to mask it before spraying...

Thanks for all the tips, guys. After posting, a friend came over and asked if I'd stirred the paint (Humbrol enamel), which I hadn't (shaken, not stirred). So, I stirred it, and repainted the whole thing and now its a nice matt paint. Also, no, I haven't glued the cockpit glass on, I just put it on for the photo.
The camo I have done is just a first coat, and is not final.
