i think that
would be a good mod, but how do you get that high? its one ugly plane, too....

They seem to be very interesting and it would be fun to imagine how flying them would be. And for people who disagree, this IL-2 simulator is the perfect way to learn and see how these "what if" may have flown. It is the perfect opportunity in the most realistic way.
From what seams to be, IL2 runs on known aerodynamic variables for a given plane hence its not the proper aerodynamic simulator for what-if airplanes with unknown variables, but yes its the proper airplane simulator.
So hold your horses and be patient (i know its dificult), airplanes will come.
PS: I got 2 words for you to google: Reynold numbers.
I did and that is why theories for finding best 'predicted and accurate' FM for practical 'what if' planes at viewtopic.php?t=7634 but of course, 'what if' plane will happen when time come. However, I told author of this thread that, this atompshere/hyperspeed aircraft is not practical in IL-2 engine. but for other planes that are non-atompshere/hyperspeed aircraft are more than possible for IL-2 engine.

The lovely thing about this sim is that it faithfully reproduces the WWII aircrafts and their fights . For an old timer like me, I don

My main objection is the massive waste of modding talent being spent on aircraft that most people will load into the game, fly once and say 'Oh right' and then never use again.
What's much better (since this is an historical WW2 flight sim) is for efforts to be directed towards important historical aircraft that would go a long way to increasing the accuracy and immersion of the WW2 experience.

When the boomerang arrives, i will fly it for an eternity O'er.

Have to say I like your thinking on this. I've flown the Lerche maybe twice... after the cool factor wore off I haven't wanted to fly it again. I would rather have another type of plane that would see more use from me than that for the amount of time and effort that went into making it. Of course it's the modder's own choice as it's his/her time so they get the final word but there's my worthless .02 right there.

Re: Ultimate Challange - danger - 10.10.2008
[quote="snaphance"]I am here to throw down the gauntlet of challange before the modders on this site. If any of you should prove brave enough to accept this challange, you need only post your acceptance below.
This will not be an easy task, it will require stamina, endurance, patience, ingenuity, and creativity. The model for the game need not be perfect, but should be as close to perfection as is possible.
So those who dare, take up this challange: The S

Like I said, I'm not interested in the supersonic or rediculous altitude aspects. I just want to see the plane and fly it.
But I could offer another challange, one more realistic, if anyone would be willing to accept.
My alternative challange is the Henschel Hs-132 Jet dive bomber.
All neccessary info may be found at

Now that is much better, this time you chose aircraft which is well suited for IL-2 engine. As long aircraft you requested for non atmosphere or hyper speed aircraft. And oh by the way, I have huge list of aircraft requests which are related to Luftwaffe 1946 at viewtopic.php?t=7788. If there is anything you wish to add to this aircraft requests library list, please feel free to post them anytime. And there are also different type of aircraft requests library at

Are you going to make the map that covers from germany to the eastern us coast snap?

and the factory to build it lol,
yet another plane that was not built. says in your link that it never had the wings mated to the fuselage. which means it was not built ( completed ). i am quite sure, if the modelers are only building their favorite planes that this along with the other will not be built, challenge or not lol. it takes over 6 months of HARD work to build a plane from scratch, and there are a lot more needed planes required other than "what if" planes.
nice try again snap lol

Agreed
Whole Heartedly Agree...
I may get myself into hot water by saying this but... in the twilight of IL2's life cycle I'd (remember I say "I" here and not the rhetorical "you" - it's an opinion) think the determining factor of what model gets built and what doesn't would be "what can benefit the sim and the community the most" closely followed by "what aircraft appeals to me".
I think it's a shame that a modeller would spend countless hours toiling away on a model that doesn't fit into any map, campaign or time frame in the sim. It is, of course, their own prerogative... but wouldn't you want to see the fruits of your labour put to good use as opposed to taken out for a test flight once or twice and never used again? I realize it takes a huge amount of time to not only build the model but also to prep it for IL2's framework. If that's the case then you'd think all that effort would be directed into "biggest bang for the buck" projects as opposed to wonder planes that never went any further than a drawing on a cocktail napkin.
Label me "ungrateful" if you will... but it's just an opinion.
