Found an interesting engine start sound ... From an F8F Bearcat: .WMV file, audio only.

From this site: http://www.hellsangels5by5.com/round_sounds (has a good B-29 engine start-up file there also)

Haven't been able to find an in-cockpit recording that was useful though. Sad

Unfortunately all of their sounds seem to have a lot of background noise from other aircraft and gasoline powered generators. Sad

Hello, i have a problem because i have in samples folder sounds of r-2800_tb, PrattWhitney_R-2800 in presets folder too but ingame p-47 and also F4U-1 engine sounds are defaults. In file "filelist" all these files are included, how can i fix that problem, what more changes should i do?

- F4U-1_Corsair - 10.01.2009

the P47 uses different sounds, and sounded much different due to its "paddle" bladed propeller rather than the normal airfoil version used by most planes. It should affect the F4U-1 however and all the RN versions, I will check that out though to be sure.

this mod doesn't need the filelist, just drop it into your mods folder.

instant-mod, no cooking required.

Hi, your sounds are correct however, they are flat and very mid-ranged. they need EQ If you have a programe that can manipulate .wav files try and cut mids, and really crank the lows. chop some highs as well.

I have been recording music most of my adult life, and am just now getting into digital recording so I don't have the ability to manipulate your files just yet.

I hear an R-2800 in there there is just no dynamic range. I have a start up sound of a p47. How do i get it off the cd and to you?

You can compress it to zip or rar, and then google rapidshare. It's pretty easy to upload, then just copy the url they give to you, and PM it to me or post it if you like

Also, I have been aware of lack of base to the sounds, but until now I've been using a really basic sound editor. I'm now going back and redoing most of these sounds by adding base mostly, but also changing the in cockpit sounds at high RPM.

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what. The external sounds are great, but the interior sounds sound like you're spinning a piece of metal on a lathe.

several people have said that they have had some or all of their files changed into a high pitch wine, I can only assume this is a error in the download, because the sound files themselves have changed.

try re-downloading them

Be careful of over doing it with the base F4u, in my experience this can lead to ingame popping. They may sound good in your headphones directly from whatever utility that you're going to use and because of the way that the game uses them it can be a world of difference.

I'm going to D/L your sounds and give them a try, hopefully they're awesome and that will be that Wink

ok, I'll keep that in mind.

The real reason the P47 sounds different is that it is turbo supercharged. I has a totally different exhaust note due to the fact that turbos are driven by the exhaust gas, and that gas is routed to the turbo and not just dumped out the side of the cowling via short stacks.

This makes the P47 much quieter externally than other R-2800 powered aircraft.

A similar situation occurs with the Wright R 2600 installation in the B-25 and B-17. The 25 has mechanical superchargers while the 17 has turbos. The 17, even though it has 2 more engines is far quieter than a B25, both internally and externally. My flight in a real B25 was the loudest thing I have ever experienced.

That's an interesting tidbit EL

Is it easy toi get old sounds back...if I haven't saved them...I probably have them but what is a solution if I don't...right now inflight my Corsair sounds like an insane garbage disposal...
