Due to past months problems, I always, always DL mods step by step and check as much as possible everything.

two days ago I DL the Bolock P-40 cockpit mod....after checking , all was clear ....
Then I DL yesterday the new P-51 cockpit mod....and after checking the .50 machinegun sounds mod has been deleted !!!!

So, there are no other way for me.

Anyway , no problem, I just ( for the moment) cancel the P-51 cockpit mod

Negative. Impossible. Check this mod content and you will see that none sound is overwritten or added.

Regards.

the man said it well ....

extract this mod to temp folder and you may notice that file path is miles away from any game's sound file .

this mod :

...\mods\boloxP-51Dseries\3DO\Cockpit\P-51D-20(K14)

sounds :

...\files\Samples\

or :

...\mods"whatever"\samples\....

Hi guys,

From a logical point of view I would say that there is no way that the pit repaint could affect the .50 cal sound mod and I myself am not convinced that it has anything at all to do with it.

When I read CK_PIPS's post, it got me thinking, it was about the same time that I had tried the 51 pit repaint that I had noticed my .50 cal sound mod had reverted back to what sounded like the stock sound. I was then and am still now confused as to what might have made this switch but it was after reading CK_PIPS's post I decided to have a bit of a dig to see what I could find.

The truth is that everything was as it should be, the "MG_Browning50.wav" was in the "...files\Samples" folder as was the "MG_Browning50x.wav" file and the "weapon.MGunBrowning50s.prs" file was in the "...files\Presets\Sounds" folder with the correct listings as shown below:

[common]
mode relobj pos
type mixer
infinite 1
EAXMix 0
occlusion -400
occllf 0.25
eaxroom 10
obstruction -400
obstrlf 0.25
mutable 1

[spl]

[samples]
MG_Browning50.wav
MG_Browning50x.wav

[sample.MG_Browning50x.wav]
env 0
infinite 1
period 0.074

[sample.MG_Browning50.wav]
env 2 8
infinite 1
period 0.074

The fact is nothing appears wrong here, so nothing is wrong right? As a programmer I have come across an anomaly before that I have never been able to explain and that is by reinstating relevant parts of the data contained within the file, usually by copying and pasting from another source, and then saving that file again reinstates the files original integrity. It is odd to me that this should make a difference, but it does. It is only very rarely that I see this type of anomaly with file integrity, but it does exist.

So what I did was copy an paste the parts shown in blue below and then saved the file.

[common]
mode relobj pos
type mixer
infinite 1
EAXMix 0
occlusion -400
occllf 0.25
eaxroom 10

env 0
infinite 1

[sample.MG_Browning50.wav]
env 2 8

Strange fix I agree, but it did work.

I am glad you are in here... Can I edit the brief in MM? I cant seem to find where.. I go into the notpad part of the brief & do it that way, but I could have sworn there was a place to do it within MM.

- PIPS04 - 29.12.2008

Thanks CrazySchmidt !!! ....
It works now !!!!!
As you said , it is strange that this mod can affect sounds, but after checking and checking, I had no other explanation because just before DL it the .50 caliber sounds were correct ( it is impossible to make any confusion due to this so specific sound !!!)

I think that problem may be came from my own ( and yours) personal mods configuration ( all of us are not using exactely same mods). Of course with a different mods configuration Bolox did not meet the problem.

To give you another strange detail , I DL the B-17 sounds mod ( engine & MG) ....All MG had their sounds reverted to stock sounds ...the ONLY MG position to still keep the .50 caliber mod was the belly MG !!!! Strange ?

Anyway thank to Bolox for this very fine cockpits ( P-40 and P-51) and thanks to CrazySchmidt !!!

Hi BC, it's been a while, how are you doing mate? Smile

MM offers the user the option to construct a mission briefing when saving a MM quick mission, but it does not offer an editing feature for existing ones sorry. So good old notepad it is.

Hi CK_PIPS,

Glad you got it working mate. Smile These mods are fun but they can keep us on our toes.

I am now at the moment digging around with my engine sounds as well because as much as I love them, not all of them work for me. For some reason I have never been able to get sounds for my Corsairs, F4F's and F6F's. That has been damned frustrating for me as I am a big fan of the PTO.

After some experimenting with the associated *.prs files by way of changing the association of *.wav files to that which I have had no problem with, I have found that I can reinstate sounds for these aircraft even if they are not the intended ones. This seemed to work for me, but then I noticed it was only while I was still in the current session. If I shut the PC down and later returned for another session, all sounds for these aircraft were again lost..... So I shut IL-2 down and then start it up again... still no sound. Then I thought, "Oh crap don't tell me it's another one of those crappy file integrity things again?". So I shut IL-2 down again, open each of the motor.PrattWhitney *.prs files again (because I don't know exactly which one belongs to each aircraft) and then save them without changing anything, start up IL-2 again and viola!! I have engine sounds again!!!

Sweet Jesus... these mods have been sent to test me I'm sure of it

Anyway food for thought me thinks...

Also Bolox, my apologies to you for this subject having become somewhat diverted from the original subject, which I believe is largely my fault. I assure you I will not contribute to this particular subject any further in this thread.

could yo maybe ad a bright reticle to the N9 ?

- bolox - 30.12.2008

CS- no probs on the derail, hopefully we've all learnt something  - and after all your work on behalf of the IL2 community you deserve more than a little leeway

thanks also to Wilhelm Heidkamp and Fly_zo for weighing in.

brighter reticle- maybe , see what i can come up with after i've finished redoing bezels and a little tidying up. no promises on this

cheers all

bolox

- BERSERKER - 30.12.2008

Excellent work bolox  .

Very well done mate

I love your cockpits

I deleted Freddie's P51 folder from within my MODS folder and added bolox's new P-51D-hr folder from within the unzipped .rar I downloaded here. Somehow I'm still seeing Freddie's 'pit!
I can't fathom what is wrong here- if his folder is gone from my MODS folder, why is it still showing up?
I've gone through the MODS folder and there is no other P-51 cockpit folder in there other than bolox's P-51B/C.

- bolox - 01.01.2009

umm, a different headache than the one i thought i'd wake up with Tongue

triple checked the uploaded files- so first thought is you have multiple installs and have deleted from one and are running on another???

what folder name did you install Freddy's to? if it's alphabetically before bolox****** it will appear rather than mine. double check a copy of Freddy's pit hasn't slipped into a folder starting with A/B??

you also mention B/C version folder being the only one appearing- should be a folder 'boloxP51D-hr' for my D versions to appear.

all the best

bolox

This is a very critical find, imho!!!!
Magpie, I think this little tid-bit discovered by CrazySchmidt could be the root cause of MANY of the sound issues guys are having - hell, I've had many such examples of sounds reverting back to stock - or disappearing - when the files are all present and correct! :!: :!: :!:
This little fix should maybe be stickied, or put in a hints and tips section....
I haven't tried it yet, but it makes perfect sense!!
Hell, it could be a similar issue that caused my searchlights to disappear from my object list, from another thread.... 8)

I only wish you had made this discovery about two months ago, CrazySchmidt. I had the exact same problem, with the same aircraft. It was absolutely mystifying and I tried everything I could think of to isolate the cause, including swapping prs files around, renaming samples files, altering mod order, re-downloading the wrapper and buttons files - finally even making a dual install of IL2 and re-introducing freshly downloaded mods, one by one, step by step. That finally solved it for me, but it was a very laborious way of doing it.
By substituting samples and prs files I proved to my own satisfaction that it was something to do with the prs files, but I couldn't see anything wrong with them and had never heard of 'file integrity' problems - so I didn't post my findings when you first made a plea for a solution. I think there are many others with the same or similar sound issues, so this is a very significant discovery.

My apologies to Bolox...

- Murph - 01.01.2009

Sorry Bolox, my bad. I rechecked yet again and found yet another "Freddie's" folder, though I would have thought it would'nt load before yours since it was called "Freddie's51" and came after yours alphabetically. Sorry to cause unnecessary concern on your part.
I really prefer your cockpit now that I've seen it- I won't go into detail since I don't want to cause any offense to Freddie, who I'm sure worked hard to make his version.
