i had a similar issue for quite a while. It started after some simple hangups and subsequent cold starts. This probably damaged the driver for my 8800GT Sli cards. I had to reinstall the driver after COMPLETELY cleaning out all what was left over from the previous one. I use Driver Cleaner.NET for that making several passes in a safe startup environment. This did it for me.
The other problem you have to look after is if this happens in an old campaign or a new one after reinstalling the driver. Sometimes the old campaign got damaged too during those restarts and have simply to delete it and start a new one.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Eckhart

I had the same problem some time ago. Especially on Slovakia map. I am writing from my head now, so that’s not very exact, but as I have found (on several il2 forums) that has nothing to do with graphic settings, but with the badly optimized game. It has some big memory leaks, and tends to crash on some maps because of that. I solved that with using another dll. That’s it as far as I know.

don't know if you have vista, but in XP (as I have) search into your mod folders EVERY files of Microsoft Acess files (mostly they're applied for smoke parameters control into "TEXTURE" folder) and try to disable the relative mod folder putting a "-" in front of it, launch the game and put 8x increase time to hurry your test of memory, after a while put again in Normal time and look if external wiev of planes fly isn't affected by studders, if yes/no continue to another mod file with the same procedure of "-" till you found what file COULD create studder/locking/CTD. good luck.regards

I am having the exact same problem as Magnus I think. Flying a DCG mission on the Riga map, about 45 min into flight I started to get stutters then a short lock up and the CTD. Got an error message about cannot read memory and opengl pbuffer. Computer has no other problems and did not restart. Infact it happened about 15min ago. I checked Task manager and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Last night I had the stutters at the end of the mision but managed to land and finish the mission, infact i played a quick mission before I closed out IL2. Ive played for hours this weekend and no problems. I did add Freddy's 109 cockpits yesterday but Ive played quick missions in the 109 without incident but I dont think they have been as long or complex as the DGC missions.

Im running XP on a PIV 3.2ghz BFG 7950GT 9371 drivers 2gb ram. 1900x1200 opengl perfect. Other than occasional stuttering when radio messages load durring high action I have no problems running IL2 with these setings. I have about 80gb freespace on my 250gb HD.

This bug is DCG related. There s a trick to go around (might work for some, not for others...). At the beginning of the mission start the recorder immediatly when mission start and turn it off. You can do it every 15min for exemple (allow a key for it). It s suppose to help with this memory leak bug...

Thanks to all of you... And Goblin -- thank you personally. I'll try to follow your advice.

P.S.: can anyone please recommend the best (highest FPS rate) NV driver for GF8800? I'm not impressed much with latest 182... Cry

Regards,
Mangas.

My 8800GT performs best with the 181.20 WHQL driver. It's not the newest, but the newest actually perform worse on my computer.

Avala Wrote:Mangas, when it crashes to desktop, do you have some mesage from windows about not readable memory?

Have or at least had same issue only days ago (Memory can'tbe read). So far a MOD called Good Insignia caused this. Got to this coclusion by trial and error method - what a fight, with all these MODs and a too looong game-upload time. I don't know wether my problems are gone, like by the wind, but so far everything looks ok (hopefully, this problem will never reappear)...

Hmmm, my problems doesn't seem to be over yet - grrr, hate it!!!
Installing that UI 1.1 is the worst crap I've ever done to my rig - sorry, but that installer crashes my game, again and again and I haven't had anything but troubles since...
"IL-2FB.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to be closed" - what the 'Biiip' is going on???

I was able to play for some 15 minutes and after closing and switching to 4.08, wanted some qualitytime on the net, all hell broke loose - WinXP can't enter the game (exe problem it says) - Arghhh, Grrr and anything else I can't write in here...
