Glad to have you back Fred - farang65 - 20.05.2009

Hi Fred,

Yes I found things difficult with the uni installer. I tried it once but it was just ok.
I have three games running on my pc.
A stock 4.09 which I may convert to uni installer later.
A fully modded 4.09 game.
I can use most aircraft like the magi, panther, sabre, and fury.
I can not fly the 5 bladed spit as I do not use aircraft installer 3.5
I also have a map making game specifically for making maps.
This is a basic 4.09 with mods that just suit map making.

While you were away I learned the map making process and now know what went in to the projects you gave me as gifts. I always have wanted to know and understand that process.

So I think uni installer is just ok. I do prefer the old 4.09 version.

I am running perfect on every game.

Fred please check your pm,s.

Cheers Kirby

Lamphun

I read somewhere that the UI uses a different file structure/names for the sound files...could this cause a problem?

As I understand the rules were changed about a month ago, so only official AAA buttons files may be released/posted on the site. This makes good sense as the buttons file is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil for this game.

However, it seems that the powers that be on this site don't seem to have the time to add certain aircraft (or WIP/Beta) or veto certain aircraft that appear on here, so not every aircraft on this site is included in the buttons file as far as I can see.

To work in the game, any aircraft with an entry in air.ini must have a corresponding FM in the buttons file. Obviously FMs are the holy of holies for all stock A/c and must not be altered. As you can hopefully deduce, if all sorts of people start putting out random buttons files then there is the scope to insert ones own nefarious code and datum for even stock aircraft.

Although this all makes sense, imho the baby was somewhat thrown out with the bathwater as Muas and Karaya were putting out 'almighty' buttons files with all know a/c and these worked a treat. However, this was stopped and now only UI related buttons files are put out which seem to be much less comprehensive and indeed problematic for some, at times.

Unfortunately, in order to protect the integrity of the game, some seemingly draconian measures must be enforced. They are of course meant for your and the games' protection. If you use AAA then you accept that AAA know best what this means for both them and you.

Well there is a simple solution for the buttons issue - just stay away from WIP and Beta mods and use only finished AAA approved content.

Or alternatively you can go rogue and use someone else's buttons file, non-AAA, but in that case you'll have trouble running UI. And UI is supposed to be the new common AAA standard on which everything new will be added in the future. So you're not really doing yourself a big favor if you're goung outside the AAA realm...

We are planning a simple jumpstart fix that should be out soon.

FYI, anyone playing online, *should* attempt to keep up to date with the aircraft released, least issues occur.

My system is set up with old v0.93 sound mod not UI
This is what I do.
Using Panther 1.2 as example.

Download Panther files and download AC Installer 3.5.

Extract both sets of files to two folders on desktop.

Explore the AC Installer folder and find buttons file for v0.93 copy
and paste into correct section of game folder after first making backup of existing buttons.

Run the game. It should run ok even without installing new aircraft.

You do not need to have all of the previous aircraft installed for the game to work with the latest buttons.

If at this stage things don't work then it is because you have not selected the correct buttons version. Try another one.

Once you are happy that the new buttons is working only then install the new aircraft.

I install all aircraft manually and make manual edits to *.ini and *.properties files.
I like to know what changes are being made.

If you are playing online you must install all of the aircraft used by the server.

I installed the old version of the panther without its own FM...and it worked fine
now the new version has a button file...but it crashes the game for me....or just doesn't appear on the list of a/c when i use the recommended Button :?
