Peace and quiet in a glider is a mainstream media myth. It's noisy, you get banged around all the time, sheer panic is a constant factor and, no (sorry to burst you bubble), you do not have somekind of peaceful, etherical experiance - it's bloodly hard work and the environment is very rough - very, very rough when the going is good. 5 hours plus flying a glider on a task and you sleep like a log when you get home.
CFI-G (Certified Flight Instructor - Glider) myself, I do know what I'm talking about 8)
BTW - I love it
You know, I had always wondered about that. Glider pilots love thermals for all the lift... but I know flying in a big thermal is bumpy as hell. And gliders tend to be much lighter than most powered aircraft, so I figured the ride in a thermal would be even bumpier. Sounds like I may have guessed correctly.
Still looks like a great time!
As long as people aren't trying to shoot you, that is. :?

By the way, I've made a Horsa glider for Theatre of War (a game with the same engine as Il-2). So The *.msh file already exist and should be working in IL-2 without much trouble. Let me know if anyone is interested in using it.
here is a screenshot of a couple gliders in the game:
They exist in US markings and british markings. There is also versions of landed gliders both intact and damaged to use as statics objects.
