What for?
When you can have better guided missles. 8)

This is indeed a great looking plane and should be fun to fly in missions ...

Super, i always wanted to fly this plane in IL2,
great job!
Keep it up!
Oh and good looking model, very smooth. 8)

Very Nice!
Was this designed by the Horten Brothers?
Cheers!

You are doing a super job on this, and yes - if we have weird looking machines like the Lerche already in the game - why not this beauty?
Looks splendid!

Now we need an atlantic Map...

Thanks guys that's great encouragement for me to continue working on this project. I will post another update once the landing gear and cockpit show some progress.
I found this design in
Luftwaffe Secret Projects :Strategic Bombers 1935-1945. It was designed in 1943 by Junkers and was to have a 4,000kg bomb load, and a range of 7,000km. Other then the bomb load, I haven't found any information for proposed armament.
Engines: 4xBMW 109-003C with 1030kg-2,270lb static thrust each.
Wing Span: 24m-78ft 9in
Loaded Weight: 38,000kg-83,972lb
Max Speed: 950kmh-590mph
Ceiling: 11,500m-37,720ft

Excellent looking model Dornep
Maybe the "Secret Projects" of the allies are still secret to some extent, the aircraft factories and design departments maybe just scrapped projects as funding certainly
wouldnt be forthcoming after the war. On the other hand you could argue they were built and used, Sea Hawk(first flight 1947) Vulcan(design started 1947) Canberra(1945 contract signed) and Lightning(1947 specification F23/49). Who knows what would have been unearthed had we been invaded in late 1945?
How about this one for IL2 escorted by Meteors and Vampires

Been working on the landing gear a bit and some bits in the cockpit. One thing that sucks about modeling aircraft that never flew, is that they usually didn't have a cockpit designed, and they don't have any details on the landing gear.
I tried to come up with a gear design that matched the "style" that most Luftwaffe planes seemed to have at that time. Also the cockpit is going to be fun as was previously stated by Dietz. I'm leaning towards a He111 styled layout with a center console/throttle quadrant, and P-38/He-111 style yokes for the pilot and co-pilot. I would also like to make it so that the co-pilots position doubles as bombardier with a bomb sight centered in front of the co-pilot. If you guys feel that my description of the cockpit sounds good, I will dive in and make it more "permanent."
With what you see in these renders the model has little over 7,000 faces, and 5,000 vertices (including internals). That count is current and I have yet to optimize the wing/damage internals. I have read that a 30k poly aircraft has been tested in IL2 with no FPS hit, so I would think that 5-10k should be more then safe.
Also, after looking at the renders.. Do you guys feel the gear doors should be flat as they are now, or should they be extruded to look more realistic/3D. As they are now they will look almost invisible from certain angles, but I also feel that I shouldn't overly detail the landing gear as it will only be seen while the aircraft is on the ground?
