Amazing work, with lots of early war types that it would be nice to see in the game. If might interest you that AGracier is attempting to populate the Hankow (China) map and could possibly use those custom objects of yours.

Thanks - I'll do that soon. I am very gratified at the warm reception this post has received - I'd like to thank you all and will respond to the PMs as soon as I can.
A bit more about my background. I was a professional illustrator in Los Angeles many years ago, but then reverted back to my true love - aircraft engineering - in the late 1980s. I drifted into model-making because I was dissatisfied with some models and their distorted mapping, which made it impossible to make first-rate textures. An example of my texture making below - the Fokker is a stock game model in the First Eagles combat flight sim. This hobby is turning out to be very complicated, so I may not be able to texture all of the models myself, and welcome any texture-maker who might be interested in helping out.

A number of modders who frequent AAA have very kindly responded with offers to help me learn the next crucial steps - including you. I thank you for your offer to help, and will contact you later when I have one or two planes ready. Now...I will get busy with a cockpit model.

I've been in contact with a number of modders from this forum, and one suggestion actually makes a lot of sense: temporarily join a mod team to assist with production of some existing projects (especially Allied bombers) to learn the ropes for IL-2, which are quite different from modding other flight sims. It was also pointed out that some Curtiss Hawks are part of the upcoming 1.2 unified installer. Unfortunately, those are not the Hawks used in China - the export versions had many minor differences in landing gear and equipment compared to the US Navy Hawks. So...I will continue development of the Chinese Hawks at a slow rate until I have learned the IL-2 process by assisting with other projects.
So...do any existing teams need some 3D modeling assistance?
In addition to the equipment differences, I have been experimenting with realistic scalloping of fabric covered surfaces in an effort to create more realistic models. While the painted shading for fabric covering is a standard in flight sims, it has always bothered my trained artist's eye, as it is only correct from ONE VANTAGE POINT, and is incorrect from all others. The only way to solve this problem is to actually sculpt the outer surfaces of the aircraft, so the lighting of the game engine will realistically portray the appearance of fabric surfaces. This has an added advantage of making life simpler for texture artists, as they do not have to paint in the fabric surface shading - something that can require an enormous amount of time.

This is one of the most exciting posts I've seen here on AAA. And there has been no lack of these. I also adore these types of aircraft, and your talent is obviously top notch.
If just a third, no a fourth of these projects make it into the game, I'm in HEAVEN! I mean: the Ki-10 Perry, the Ki-30!!! Stunning. And the ground objects - wow!

Great stuff - China or Spanish Civil War - these aircraft are simply made for this game.
And yes, I am (trying to) populate a Hankow map and further more a Formosa map and several SCW maps and all would greatly benefit from these objects ... I'm just back home after a long abscence but was able to do some map work during the time. In a few days I ought to be back up to speed here and be able to continue with maps and such ... hope to see some of them usable ...
And it's great to see that after all the years as an existing game, Il-2 is still able to inspire new adherents ...
