Not necessarily, trekking in North Africa, when the ground is dusty / gravelly like the photos here suggest, there was never a golden yellowy colour at all. Chalky reds, dusty grey / red, and orangey colours. Pastel shades for the most part, not vivid. Of course, that was morocco, which I appreciate is not libya, but if the terrain was anything like those images suggest (and so anything like morocco), then actually the colours are not half bad at all, although might benefit from being brightened a touch, but not too much.

Well, when I was in Egypt it wasn't like that...
But the brightening is what I mean; a lot of the colours are inlfuenced by the sun's glare and when the brightness decreases, the colours begin to look colder

What's irfanview ?
i just used the capture function in google earth, and then on photoshop cut a 1024x1024 square, and then worked to tone down the brigntness. there are only some parts of Lybia map that can be used to make this map, because most of territory is captured in low resolution.
Here are the small places where i found enough detailed textures. All textures are take (for all map i made since Okinawa) at 1200-1800/1900 km height. This provide textures which are good for in game flight at midium and high altitude. When you zoom down to 1200 and you see google earth don't rescale and resample the texture it means that you will not have better texture...don't use it.
For exemple there is many nice textures on the orange parts of this map, but when you compare it with the level of details on the clear sectors i puted in red in this pic you will see diffences in terms of quality.

I agree. Desert.....is not desert. There is as many kind of desert landscapes than human faces in the world........I know yellow desert, white deserts, red deserts, blue desert. i know people imaginating before meet it as yellow place, and when there were there they were surprised by an exlosion of colours.
Even spacemens describe many different kind of colours at the surface of the Moon and not just grey...
Guys you know what...my desert will be a little skyzo so full of colours, don't be affraid....hahahahahaha
It's gonna be without claim a differeny experience than the desert map you already know. I just want to bring diversity to this game.

Bir Hakeim and fields in Tobrouk region
I'm looking for typical fields textures on the coast of the map, specially for Tobrouk sector. I started the job this morning. I'm using 2 main textures, and one or maybe 2 to create a natural transition between the field textures and sand ones. I don't like when fields seems to fall from the sky in the middle of the map like from no where...
There will be be tree.tga textures later like the channel map.
And this is for Bir Hakeim. I was trying to find a texture able to characterize better the place, with maybe bomb craters and tire tracks showing the intense activity of the region (and fights)....but i'm not convinced by the result for the moment...i post it anyway to let you see this...what do you think about that :???: :???:
- HGuderian - 09.05.2010
Hi redko...beautiful work as usual.
About more characterized Bir Hakeim's textures try to take a look around this forum...there's a version of Mrz_Malta with bombed airports textures that shows many craters and some roads.
