Please excuse my ignorance, but what do I do with it? - Be nice now!

Hi,
Swap out your current IL2.exe file with this new file!

If anyone gets their Win 7 64-bit to stop crashing and other things, then for everyone's benefit please post what you did to fix it.

Shoot Skull - I'd pay money for it :lol:

I would suspect a hardware issue. I'm still on XP32, but it's my understanding that there are quite a few who have the game running on Win7 64, or am I mistaken?

Bulau, yes, this is correct. There are plenty of people with Win7 64-bit who say that they have had no freezes or anomalies with IL-2 after installing it.

I agree that the Win7 64-bit itself likely is not the cause of the problem, though a solution might involve a step or two in the process which directly involves Win7 somehow, such as BIOS related, for example.

Smile I've been running Win 7 64 bit for quite some time now and I stopped, just about, all crashes after setting 'Disable Visual Themes' in the compatibility tab of the shortcuts properties.

Please note that I do not run in Compatibility Mode.
1) right click the game shortcut and select 'Properties'.
2) left click on the 'Compatibility' tab,
3) select (tick) 'Disable Visual Themes'
4) Click on 'Apply'

Yeah I've been doing that since Vista...

Upgrading the ATI 9.10 atigloxx.dll file in my IL2 root folder with the newer 10.5 atigloxx.dll seemed to fix it for me, ran for hours online the past few nights with no problems anymore.

I am running vanilla 4.09, HSFX, Ultr@Pack and a SAS mod version under Win 7 Pro 64 bit. I have had no problems nor have had the need to emasculate any eye candy. Big Grin
Through a process of trial and error, the only "special" measures I took were:
- Install the games in their own Games directory (eg: C:\Games\Sturmovik_v409_UPv2_01\IL2-Sturmovik1946) not the default Programs directory suggested by the installation program;
- Right click on il2fb.exe ( or whatever you use as the executable - mine is modded to access the 4GB of RAM available under 64bit systems) go to the Compatibility tab > Change settings for all users and tick "Run this program as an administrator" > Apply > OK;
- Go through the same compatibility process for the shortcut to il2fb.exe (or whatever) you use to start the game;
- Go through the same compatibility process for the .exe files and shortcuts of any other programs you are using with the game - eg: Track IR, HOTAS programs, graphic driver/mod programs like NVIDIA control panel, etc.;

Cheers,
