The First World War: August the 4th 1914 (Well for Britain Any ways) - 11th of November at 11 O'clock 1918

The Second World War: September the 3rd 1939 (Well for Britain and France Any ways) - May 8th 1945 Europe and August the 15th 1945 (Or if you like September the 2nd 1945) In the Pacific which started December 7th 1941

The first world war started with Austria-Hungary declaring war against Serbia at Juli 28th 1914.

The raid against Poland started September 1st already.
WWII end date for europe depends on which time zone you're referring to. In the combat zone it was May 9th.

August 15th was a single-sided proclamation. This has been seen in europe before (where germany tried to surrender on the western front only) where it has been rejected. Hence September 2nd is the correct date.

I've asked my share of "you should have known the answer to that one" kind of questions, even recently.

This is from a guy who has played IL-2 for five years and modded for a while now.

None of us know all the basics about everything.


We need to remember to treat everyone well.

I thought it was called 1946 as a "what if" If the Germans managed to break through in the Ardennes and extend the war, and if forces invaded Kyushu. Basically if the war last a year longer.
And actually the Pacific war started about 1937(or '35) when Japan invaded Manchuria. Then China. Thus leading to the AVG helping out the RoC. 7 December 1941 is when the United States was brought into the Pacific, 8 Dec Europe when Germany declared war on us.

Good day, everyone,

Hilter would have never surrendered, even after several atomic bombs on Germany.

Sometimes whole German armies were surrounded and annialated because Hitler refused to allow a retreat.

Millions of German troops were captured or killed this way.


Without Hitler's blunders, The Second World War would likely have lasted well into 1946.

In this scenario, many underground factories producing advanced weapons would have come online. There were over 1 hundred such factories planned by Hitler's regime by the time of the actual end of the war.

A little known fact of WW2 is that there were stock piles of German chemical, biological, and radioactive materials which were reserved for retaliation if the Allies used weapons of mass destruction on Germany.

No doubt, advanced weapons as a delivery for such retaliation was on the minds of German High Command.

PS: I wasn't 100% joking with my answer on the last page, somewhere around 1990 I was told the Second World War
never officially ended diplomatically (with a Peace Treaty between all parties) before the German Reunification due to a not signed Peace Treaty by all parties. Which was signed at the occasion of the above named event.
I'm not sure myself ATM TBH. :oops: I was so good in history..before I smocked Mary J in college. :wink:

So World War II is one of the longest wars in history..right behind the Crusades and the Hundred Years War between England and France?(Actually it is funny to think that during that war most of France was occupied by....England!)

..besides lack of an officially by all parties signed peace treaty, all former involved countries had come to the consensus that actual peaceful boundaries and the status quo of military and economical relationships between all former adversaries had equalled to a state of peace.
In all but strictly formal terms the 8th of mai 1945 was regarded as the end of WWII in Europe anyway.
6 years of that hell was long enough.
I think roughly the same counted for the War in the Pacific, and almost 4 years of that hell was sure enough as well.
I'm glad today we can all fly this sim knowing that we're all at peace and that all of us share democratic constitutions.

I should have mentioned that what I meant that offically(on paper) World War II did not end in 1945. I think the actual declarations of war were struck down by the US in 1953 and the USSR 1955. I'm not sure about the UK though.
And oddly enough you consider WWII to be multiple wars. You had the European Theater and the Pacific Theater, both of which really were totally seperate and unrelated. Then there's some little other wars like in Iraq volunteer German Bf-110s fought against the British.
You also have groups like the Nationalists and Communists and China, while fighting a common enemy they also fought each other, then you also have a little period where Romania had a dictator who wanted to get Transylvaina, and also not get swallowed up by the Third Reich.
Romania then overthrew him, reinstated the monarchy and declared war on Germany. It was the only time in the war when it became a three-way conflict, where Romania was fighting the Allies and Axis.(Russia and Germany) But of course after the war the Soviets slapped one of their puppet governments on Romania.
So specifically you can not put a start date and and an end date for the entire war. Europe wise it began 1 September 1939 and ended May 7(or 8th for eastern front) 1945 for Germany. Pacific wise it started in 1931 and ended September 2, 1945. Of course there's the actual ending of declarations of war and treaties. And it could also be plausible that WWII simply became the Cold War and last until 1991, and that it turned from a war of democracy versus fascism into versus communism.
I'll stop my history lecture now... :mrgreen:

The USA and Britain where certainly fighting a global war.



I feel that we must remember the 40 Soviet divisions sent from defending against Japan to the front against Germany. Here is evidence of both the mental and the military influence of the course of war in both theatres upon one another.

One must also remember the strong influence of events in the Pacific and Europe toward military deployment by the United States of America and Great Britain. Hence the agreement: "Germany first!", which is the decision to focus most war effort on Germany because it was the most dangerous in many ways.

However, American naval decisions and deployment largely were influenced by the threat of Japanese naval power and lack of surface threat from Germany. We see the majority of USA large warships deployed to the Pacific because of the Japanese naval surface fleets.


US, Britain, and Allied efforts were strongly influenced by events in the Pacific and Europe, in my humble opinion.
