Still adding villages...what a pain to find their locations and names...

Next release will be the final one. Not planning to work further on this after adding the final villages.

Did you check the link I posted, to Gen. Kenney Reports? It has some basic maps before almost each chapter:

This is the map that shows the two trails:

Yeah, used that an other 6 maps to place villages...incredible how every map shows a new village and how the names vary from map to map. Google Earth is not very usefull too...anyway, already have all Kokoda Track Villages (i hope), some around Gona, Dodobura and Between Gona - Kokoda. Also have some villages near the lake a the south and Owen

I found you some detailed WW2 maps and sent the info by PM.

- MrOblongo - 30.04.2009

I think those maps are actually 1965 maps. Great info in there and again the same problem...many more villages showing there, some are not showing, some others have different names...etc...its a pain Confusedhock: . Finding the exact location is also hard because the topographic info in the maps are not very accurate and when you compare it to the real SRTM data, is also hard to find the exact spots.

Thanks again for the info.

Here you can see some other sources im using...

New 1.4 Version released...

Added lots of villages, fixed some runway waypoints in most of the airfields, added more geographic landmarks, etc...

Maybe this is the final version, maybe not Big Grin

Mr. Oblongo - this is a beautiful map.

I started building some missions on it, and noticed a couple of small things:

- The approach to the south west landing point of Ward's Strip needs to be checked. I tried to land a flight of A-20C's and they crashed into one of the hills on the approach. They just clipped a bit of forest, so any adjustment only has to be tiny

- The skins on the static A/C seem to be set to ETO.

Anyway - thanks for your efforts - this is brilliant.

Some updates...

Right now im adding some road network from Gona to Kokoda, added a "bridge" in Wairopi made of wooden taxi plates...kind of work and trucks can actually go trough it  . Will add some roads in the Port Moresby area and will fix the Wards approach, Kila have the same problem but it will remain like that.

Added lots of huts along the road so it will look a little more populated. And thats for now.

New version 1.5 (FINAL, kind of)

-Added Roads for Port Moresby Area
-Added Roads from Gona to Kokoda
-Added Roads to Dodobura area
-Added Roads from Gona tu Buna
(Some parts of the roads are under jungle, so trucks are hard to spot)

-Fixed some issues with Stay waypoint in Wards field
-Approach problem with Wards Field is fixed
-Added some bridges made of wooden taxi plates (working for vehicles to pass)
-Added many huts around to make it look a little more populated

I Think this is the FINAL version.
Thanks for all the support

Thanks for all the work!!!

Big Grin Sweet! Can't wait to go sightseeing. Way back there were servers running a Kokoda mission and it was fun. It was just wrong to be flying over that "green hell" and see gentle rolling hills and an easy to follow road.

Very happy to see a "fix"... and then some!

This was in a server??!

Thank you for your work, I really like the map.
One question, will you add a working map_F file? It seems the existing map_F file doesn't function correctly.

Well, they had to work with what Oleg had given them. Tongue

Mr. Oblongo - one last request before the final. Please could you consider slightly lowering one of the hillsides to the east of Kokoda airfield - this will allow us to land flights of AI C-47's on the strip. If you check out landing at the north end of the strip with a flight of Dakotas, you will see that there is only a small part of the hill that needs slightly lowering.

Thanks in advance.....
