thanks DM, but let me try first

Re: Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird For VSF - kostas - 21.06.2013

Dm i have a problem

i add the pilot as follow

i made the pilot0.cfg file and the pilots folder inside the SR-71 vehicle folder and the pilots appear in the game
[Image: 0b2a3c6a1f8aa4006270b2bf087bf63e.jpg]

buy only from the front side of the plane (angles from 270, 0, 90 degrees). From the back of the plane (or angles from 90, 180, 270) the pilots disappearing
[Image: bae6a80081e74b063dd0deb26eefc13f.jpg]

also, if you go a little close on the plane, the pilots disappearing
[Image: ccbf40ad8fd836e603e405e6bce5c411.jpg]

so i decide to add the pilots as you did for my Easy Rider.
i made the pilots folder with the Sr71 subfolder containing the pilot.x file and i add in the vehicle.cfg file the //pilot with pilot name and x,y,z, position. But the pilots not appear at all
what is wrong?

I would need to look at it to see what is not right with it.
I just helped Robert Neath with his boat that he was getting bad FPS with.

Hi Kostas, found the problem and am on my way of fixing it for you, here is what it was;

Your 3D program sketchup makes bounding box's around the 3D look at photo 1 and you will see them in green.

VSF does NOT like bounding box's around the 3D so I removed them all as seen in photo 2 and made a new X file without them.

Now your pilots show up in game but I need to re-scale them and put them into the cockpits and then I will send you the new files for your pilots.

Nice plane and pilots you did Kostas Big Grin

Hi Kostas, I have now sent you by PM your pilot now working X file, you need to use the pilot0 cfg so you can scale the pilot to your plane.

Also it would be best if you would scale your plane in your 3D program then to use the vehicle cfg to do it, this way here you can use a pilots folder and its a lot better if you need to go back and work on anything, just a little advice.

Re: Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird For VSF - kostas - 22.06.2013

hi DM,
i use your pilot.x file and works fine
[Image: cbfad326017757fbd005bc49e223ab73.jpg]

without use the pilot0.cfg
only thing that i did is to create a pilots folder inside the vehicle folder with a subfolder, let's say lockheed, and inside it your pilot.x file (with the textures)
then in the vehicle.cfg i add this settings:

// pilot
lockheed [pilot_name]
0.00 [pilot_x]
0.10 [pilot_y]
0.70 [pilot_z]
0.30 [pilot_scale]
..... and works fine

those boundings box's as in your photo 1 are the groups of the design parts of the pilot, but the big box which contain all the parts is not made from me, but from deep exploration by default in the conversion in x file and i don't know how to remove it. i will try to change the conversion settings

Looks good, glad I could help you Big Grin
I like your work you make nice models kostas :Smile)

Re: Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird For VSF - kostas - 22.06.2013

well, thanks Dm... nice models i don't say that.... let's say..... acceptable models Smile

anyway is another issue that i want discuss.... but later. now i will try the my pilots conversion

Re: Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird For VSF - Deutschmark - 22.06.2013

When you are ready to discuss that other issue just let me know Smile

Re: Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird For VSF - kostas - 24.06.2013

after many attempts, i delete those bounding box in deep exploration but the result was the same . Pilots are not visible
i try to convert the file in others modes from sketchup but without success...... a mistery :-?
so i decide to keep the pilot.x file and use the pilot0.cfg
in the pilot.cfg i add the line "0 [auto_hide]" so pilots are visible from any angle and from any view F1 or F2

Re: Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird For VSF - Deutschmark - 24.06.2013

How about when someone is in the cockpit, is the pilot there with him?

Deutschmark

Re: Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird For VSF - kostas - 24.06.2013

yes the pilot is there, but not visible for angles -180,0,180 because the camera point in F1 view is a little in front of his helmet

Re: Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird For VSF - Deutschmark - 25.06.2013

Not good, why don't you just scale the plane in your 3D program then you can scale the pilots to it in your 3D program then use the pilots folder, it will be a lot better and more correct.

Re: Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird For VSF - kostas - 25.06.2013

DM, the problem is not the scale. As i said at the post of 22/6 i rescale your pilot. x file adding and changing the settings in the vehicle.cfg and works fine.
the problem is my pilot.x file who for an unknown for me reason is not visible in that mode.
The only way to be visible is creating the panel0.cfg with the setting
0 [auto_hide] and the file SR71_pilot.x, both inside the SR71 vehicle folder.
The only "disadvantage" is that the pilots are visible in F1 view, but can notice them if you move the camera view for an angle more to 180 degrees

Re: Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird For VSF - kostas - 25.06.2013

the other issue who i want discuss is, how adjust the setting in vehicle.cfg file...and i will expain what i mean

According wikipedia.........
1. Powerplant: 2 afterburning turbojets .........so i put "jetab [engine_type]" and "2.0 [num_props]"
2. Wing area: 1,800 ft2 (170 m2) ......so "170 [wing_sur]"
3. Service ceiling: 85,000 ft .......so "25900.0 [max_altitude]" (in m)
4. Rate of climb: 197 ft/s (60 m/s).......... "60 [vario_climb]"
5. Wingspan: 55 ft 7 in (16.94 m).........."16.94 [wing_span]"

and i think that the settings who define the power and the speed of the plane are:
6. Max. takeoff weight: 172,000 lb (78,000 kg) ........ so i put "78000.00 [mass]"
7.Powerplant: 2 ? Pratt & Whitney J58-1 continuous-bleed afterburning turbojets, 34,000 lbf (151 kN) each ............. so i set [max_thrust] 151000N x 2 = 302000 Newton

but with those last 2 setting the max speed of the plane is only 1,6 Mach and no 3,3 Mach as in wikipedia

is some other value who i must add or change to have the max speed of 3,3 Mach?

in my vehicle.cfg to obtain the max speed of 3,3 Mach i change the [max_thrust] to the (amazing) value of......5000000 Newton (five million!!!!!!!! Confusedhock: )
and this value create two issue
1. if the plane take off in max thottle (100%) is going away like......... a bullet.
2. after the speed of 1.5 Mach the nose of the plane come up uncontrollably
- So during take off, throttle must non exceed the 10%
-for speed over 1,5 Mach must set the trim to the value -2.6
with that value of trim to turn the plane of 180 degrees is a loooooooooooong case

is a way to fix that issues ?
