Ok when you save your file with gimp, make sure you in grayscale (image -> mode -> grayscale), then save your file as map_h.tga. You should get a prompt that asks you if you want RLE compression. Untick that.
Thats what I do.
map_T editing - asheshouse - 09.12.2007
I'm starting to work with map_T.tga
Everything I have is sourced from the Singapore map files.
I thought to start by changing the load.ini so that I get NWEurope textures instead of Southeast Asia.
I've changed my all the load.ini to match the NWEurope load.ini except for the entries under [FIELD]
so far all ok. It still load up in FMB and flies ok too.
However when I start changing the entries under [FIELD] it will no longer load in FMB.
Should I ignore this for the moment and just edit using the RGB values in the Singapore map_T?
------ but if I do this how do I change to NWEurope textures later?
The map_T files are quite different on each map
Singapore has water RGB 28,28,28
NWEurope has water RGB 30,30,30
Balaton has water RGB 0.0.0
I'm a little confused :?

lowfighter Wrote:I was talking about the fact that looking at an airfield painted area, you have limited hint where the runway and parking places are. So when you try to add new textures to the airfield area it's mostly trial and error work, I think I had to start the game some 5-6 times just to adjust the different texture I placed around one of the parking places.
About textures and colours: all colours are with R=G=B and
RGB=0 coresponds to lowland0
RGB=1 corresponds to lowland1 etc
So you have the folowing:
RGB=0-3 lowland0-3
RGB=4-7 midland0-3
RGB=8-11 mount 0-3
RGB=12-15 country0-3
RGB=16-19 city0-3
RGB=20-23 airfield0-3
RGB=24-27 wood0-3
RGB=28-31 water0-3
So just clicking somewhere on a map you know what region it belongs to.
Hope that helps. If you dont have a texture assigned to a specific value, the map will refuse to load.

I've got the hang of it now I think

I had the same problem. You have to ensure that
all of the files in your map folder are listed with the correct path in filelist.txt and that there are no spelling errors.

I'd do it this way:
Quote:all.ini
RAF_Hawaii hawaii/raf_load.ini
file list
maps/hawaii/raf_load.ini
maps/hawaii/raf_map_c.tga
...

are you sure ? cos i couldn't change map_c.tga name and got it to work ... is it new thing?
- Vpmedia - 10.12.2007
I only assumed if you change a line in the load.ini
from
[MAP]
ColorMap = map_c.tga
to
[MAP]
ColorMap = RAF_map_c.tga
that it will work.
If not sorry...but my point is to work in the
same folder and maybe then it will load.

one of limitations with edited map_c.tga /...table is that it must remind with same name .... that is why i had to put my BoB in new folder .
...but if map_c.tga isn't changed ... yeah its better to put just load.ini and rest of modded files in default dir.... and in load.ini specify file names .
