Wow, that map is going to be huge...really looking forward to it!
I would like to see anything really, but am really interested in any new or re-skinned static objects you may have made especially for this map. The early shots of the re-skinned wall to make a stone breakwater was great!
Any chance you might be willing to give a few quick tips on re-skinning static objects? :wink:

Metatron - I had to draw a line somewhere! Already the map is at the limit - it's 11936 px x 20864 px - huge!
Cujo - well, you'll see more reskinned objects when I start work on Egypt/Libya because I've made some desert houses. The Greek houses in the early screenshots are reskinned objects,
Basically, reskinning objects is simple. Download the 'Objects Textures' download (from Skins section of AAA) and you'll then have the msh, mat and tga files for the objects. Convert the TGAs to a format viewable by Photoshop etc and reskin/recolour them. If you want to make the reskinned object a new object (and not just replace the original), you'll need to add an entry to static.ini

Mountains: like Etna one in your shot, maybe you can use a maze of 2-3 assorted mount textures, that is, if you still have some free texture slots... makes it looks more realistic, mountains are usually nonuniform.

I'll try and mix the mountains a little, but I'm totally full on texture slots - need a wide variety of textures for the desert, southern MTO and northern MTO
Etna's not a great example of my mountains though, because it's a pretty uniform basalt. My other mountains are a mixture of 3 textures.

Alexandria's not done yet. I'm populating the map in sections, and I've just finished Crete. My next area is western Egypt, then Eastern Egypt - so I'll post pics of Alexandria then

Ok, update
I've finished working on Crete - all airfields, main towns/villages, forts etc all done.
Moved to work on Egypt now. I'm working on western Egypt first, and here's a pic of my first town and airfield in Egypt - Mersah Matruh. In the pic you can see the town (with reskinned buildings), the quays, the water storage tanks and Mersah Matruh landing ground. All this is based on authentic maps and photographs from the National Archives.

I've now got photographs of every major airfield in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, and diagrams/detailed descriptions of the minor landing grounds. So, my map will have super-authentic airfields (like my Channel map). I have a thing about airfields, so I don't make mine up

That's great - it really adds to the immersion of a map to know the airfield layout is authentic and even based on photographs...great stuff really.
I'm trying to organize default desert skins for all the static aircraft in honor of your new map
