I fly over the Grand Canyon a lot and I'm often tempted to roll over, dive down and rip through the thing at low level. Now I can do it !!! Yee Haw !!!

Out of curiosity, for someone who has actually flown over the Grand Canyon - how does the map compare to reality?

I made this map mostly to educate myself in map and texture development and to find out how well the IL2 engine could render extreme terrain - I find that some things in the map came out well, but others, Wotan's Throne for instance, I can't make look like pictures I've seen. --viking

Your map is excellent. Looks just right from the perspectives that I've had. The colors on the map are more vivid than what I see on over-flights and the cliff faces are a bit rounded off but overall it's so close that it's amazing.

Thanks for the input - the latter is a limitation of the game in that changes in height occur every 200 meters. Regarding the colors - I actually toned down many of the textures for that reason. Perhaps I should adjust them more. A couple of the screenies at the beginning of the thread were taken before I toned them down and show even more vividness than what should be in there now.

Thanks! -viking

I think the colors are very close. Right now it reminds me a little more of flying over Bryce Canyon in Utah. The Grand is a little bit more subtle. I hope you don't think I'm trying to "nit pick" because I think it's great. Here's a couple of photos to illustrate the difference. First photo is Bryce Canyon second is the Grand Canyon.

No worries - this is very helpful - it's good to get the perspective of someone who's seen it first hand from the air. I've been to both Bryce and the Grand but when I was 13 - and that was a LONG time ago

Having no luck getting this to show up in QMB...Have followed your instructions to a T.Could it be that I need to take contents out Grand Canyon folder & paste them into the land/summer folder?
Frustrated.... Cry

- viking4570 - 29.04.2009

It won't show up in the qmb - there are no qmb missions made for it. Open it in the FMB.

OK - here are basic QMB missions red none and blue none for this map -

http://rapidshare.com/files/227062353/V ... on_QMB.zip

Put these two .mis files in you /missions/quick/ folder and add the following line to the [quick] section of your conf.ini:

CustomXX=VKG_Grand_Canyon

where XX is the next number in sequence under the [quick] section.

Have fun. -viking

If you guys like, I'll try to put together a full mission set for the qmb - or at the very least scramble missions. I like taking off. Cheers - viking

Viking--
Thank you very much for the beautiful map. Just so you know, I'm almost done with a full mission pack (all 12) for the QMB which I'll be uploading for people here at AAA within the next couple of days. Again, thanks--it's really unique and fun to fly (and fight) over.

AH yes- scramble's my fav. I seem to be pretty inept at making the QMB missions myself.

Anything else you do is simply icing on a very nice cake 8)

Thanks again!
