I think we had maps of the world back then, and anyone could see that we are a LOT BIGGER than Japan. So any attack, would piss us off where we would then come over from California and squash them. I would think!
So we most have done something to piss off Japan first.
And, after the planned two attacks, what was Japan going to do next? Sail away? Set up Japan as the new government in Hawaii?
Or what?
Personally it would be like Bahamas attacking Florida. The first day we are caught off guard (back then, no radar, etc.), but the second day we would be getting everyone together to go over, as soon as we could, and clobber them a lot worse! That attack by Japan just did not make any sense to me. They clobber ONE naval base, we clobbered ALL OVER their country.

ok this is what happoned japan join the axis, then we shut of there oil supply japan gets pissed and decides war is the only option so they decided to attack pearl where ALL of the navy ships where there main target where the carriers but the carriers werent there on the day of the attack but they continued with the attack now if the carriers had been there we couldnt do a thing about it even with long range bombers we would not be able to reach them. and if the carriers where sunk then the doolittle raid wouldnt have happoned wich was an importent bombing run. now japan did make a mistake with the attack they had a 3rd wave of bombers ready but they decided not to lauch it if they had we most likely would have lost the war at least in the pacific.

hope this cleared things up

thats cause the admiral didnt want to risk it. if he launched a 3rd wave, the planes would have to land at night. they had no radar or equipment to do that

Even if the third wave had wiped out the Tank farms...the allies would have won...just taken longer

But for a real look at why Japan attacked.... and was allowed to 'catch' the US fleet by suprise....and the reason for many wars in the last cetury...watch this documentary....... "The Money Masters"

A shame that progress seems to have stopped on this.
It would make a good project for someone.

It s quite a lot of work to fully populate Battleship Row though.
Four ship classes are required.

Pennsylvania Class (Arizona and Pennsylvania)
Nevada Class (Nevada and Oklahoma)
Colorado Class (Maryland and West Virginia)
Tennesee Class (California and Tennesee)

-- but it would be nice just to have one of those.

For a good model some decent detailed drawings are required. Not just a simple plan and elevation.

Profile Morskie 006 and 045 cover California and Colorado, but I think these show the later rebuilt form.
AJ Press EoW 36 and 37 cover the Tennesee and Colorado Classes and I think include the Dec 41 arrangement, but I'm not sure how much detail is provided.

So hmmm, this looks familer

How picky is Il-2 about meshes? I assume the vertices need to be at minim but there seems to be quite a number of free WWI meshes out there.

- asheshouse - 09.02.2010

I downloaded the USS Arizona and have viewed it in Sketchup and Max.
The image below is from Max.
Most of the fine detail of railings etc is done with simple wire lines. These disappear when exported to Max.
For IL-2 all detail has to be made from triangular polys.

The level of detail is not up to that of the existing IL-2 models.
I am not familiar with the details of the Arizona but I guess the hull shape is wrong, particularly the bow shape.
Secondary guns, AA guns, ships boats, etc are missing.

Given the significance of the ship, if its going to be done it ought to be done right.
