The IMF file is a TGA divided in 2 parts : RGB image data differentially coded and alpha channel also differentially coded. Having them separated makes it easy to use alpha channel for shades etc.
If there is anyone there with a working setup of VB or VC compilers I can provide the info I discovered so far to make a simple converter.
BTW did anyone tried to open Il-2 SFS files with ToW SFS viewer?
If you have any idea how to convert the data from IMF to normal RBGA data, please share the info.

Well people i sent DR.Jones some DLL files and he was able to get it working with out TOW so. One less project for the time being right ?
I will get it into the tools page once i have gotten it.

If not and for those who wish to remain with "the lesser evils" :? I've swapped all the stuff over to Mediafire and will use that from now on..or at least give it a spin till it falls over or whatever. It seems pretty good thanks for the suggestion
