Downloading now. I cant wait to try it. Thanks for your hard work Pete.

Would be nice to use 1024x1024 textures resolution for the forest and moutains. Isn't that the case?
I like the colour of the water, very "local". Nice work. .
This map seems to have a good potential for texturing
- Mission_bug - 09.11.2009
Hello all hope you've not encountered any problems loading the map, I'm not getting much done with it at the moment, still need to smooth out the landscape where I flattened the rivers, that will be a major chore.
The textures I've used are 1024X1024 redko, a habit I have through skinning I automatically set any textures to that size.
I notice the files Bombsaway made for me are 512X512, not sure if the size is important for the map, maybe Bombsaway could enlighten us on that one. The water colour is thanks to Bombsaway, it certainly gives a feel to the map doesn't it.
The textures I uploaded are the latest I've been messing with, hence the instruction to remove previous files, just in case I've changed the names on some and also to save having unused files in there. I've tried to get rid of the seams on these using Gimp, hopefully it helps the look and avoids that tile effect.
How about a preview of your project Kirby, would be nice to have some shots of what you've done. (Sorry Kirby I meant an update  )
Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Hello,
don't want to sound suspicious, but aren't the jungle and city textures borrowed from "HR Vietnam repaint" made by Brain32 for Thirdwire's "Wings Over Vietnam"..? Looks oddly familiar :-?
- Mission_bug - 15.11.2009
Textures were Googled CA_STARY, not borrowed from anywhere.
All the best, Pete.
- CA_STARY - 15.11.2009
ok, no problem for me, looks good. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the link mandrill7, Vietnam certainly has a varied landscape doesn't it, I keep trying various Googled textures
but it is difficult to stick to a specific amount due to the variety in the landscape.
All the best, Pete.

Here are a few shots showing the rather slow progress of this project at the moment, I took time out to skin the S-328
but I am now back on track.
Bombsaway, the coastal texture master, continues to inspire me to carry on by constantly providing new textures for
me to try, thanks very much Mark I appreciate it.
This texture is an addaption of his seaweed and kelp bed texture altered to suit my Vietnam map,
still a work in progress at the moment he tells me.
A view from the air.
I've finally got around to bluring the areas that were levelled along the river banks, the height
tool is a fairly brutal animal in this respect and anyone who has this WIP map will probably have
noticed the heavy shadows cast where any thing was flattened, it left deep trenches which were
rather horrible to view.
As you can see here things now look much more natural.
I've added a Develpier bridge in Da Nang and begun to lay down a few roads.
I've had a go at painting the roads in without much success, they ended up in all sorts of strange
places, so I am going to add a limited road network the hard way.
Here is a road heading out of Da nang towards Hue. I will try to put a few through the hills were
possible as long as I can find a route that will require the least amount of adjusting with the height
tool, other than that they will mainly follow the coast and go along side the rivers.
Here you see the textures I've been experimenting with to illustrate Vietnamese agriculture.
And here is how things will look along the rivers and coast. I want to add beaches but the texture
in the sim used for this tends to leave rather jagged edges when applied so I need to find something
suitable with Google.
I've been trying to make a tree map for my hills texture following the instructions in the Kevin P
tutorial but as of yet I am having no success getting one to work. I wanted to cover the hills with
trees so that it looked a little more natural rather than just having the flat texture I have at the
moment, the only other alternative will be to use existing sim textures for this but they are all a
little too light in colour for my liking, and not very Vietnam looking.
Well that's it for now.
Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Hi Pete.
Here are some shots of the new texture. I adjusted the tint and brightness a bit. I think it looks a little closer to "real" I hope you like it.
Here is something you may want to look at Pete. Da nang just up from the mouth of the river stay to the right and have your view low to the ground for it to show up.
Vietnam crab shack.
- Mission_bug - 08.12.2009
The new texture looks just right now, cheers mark, I love it thank you very much.
It definately fits better with the surroundings now you have toned it down a little. 8)
I've been looking at a new texture myself for the hills, what do think? Better than the original?
I thought someone would find one of these floating downstream, covert ops you know,
looking for dodgy characters.
Seriously though I use these to find where I'm up to when I'm flattening the rivers.
It can get a little disorientating trying to figure out where you are when you're constantly
changing viewpoints. I've removed it so it should'nt be a hazard to shipping anymore.
Will upload progress so far sometime soon to the usual place.
Wishing you all the very best, Pete.
