I built this Tamyia model when I was a kid. I had never heard about the Skyraider before and that's when I fell in love with it : Radia piston-engined, multi purpose, carrier based mule of the jet age, used to drop high explosive ordinance on jungle guerilla fighters ? I want !
Cheers

I would love to have the AD-1 Skyraider to blow up some stuff with during the Inavasion of Japan too.

Don't forget it's one of the few planes who were capable to drop nukes too.
- Scharnhorst1943 - 22.06.2009
Not debating the accuracy of this ... but wouldn't this plane fly too slow and too low to escape the blast of a nuke?

The AD-4B was modified to carry nuclear weapons and deploy them using the toss-bombing or over-the-shoulder techniques. It was supposedly capable, but it was never tested and proved to be a political tool more than anything giving the Navy's carrier fleet nuclear abilities. It could carry a Mark 7, Mark 8, or Mark 91 nuclear bomb. See the link below for more info.

It maybe flew about 3000ft lower and a bit slower that a B-29, but maybe they would have dropped it "retarded" with a drag chute?
