Error:map 2D not found...

- kapteeni - 14.02.2008

I have been reading tutorials and general discussion about modding here.(and more i read, more confused i am, ways of the dark side are mysterious to me... but very temptating..). I thought that i could do mapping right way. I have been use sound mod since 17 Nov 2007 . I have never stumbled problems like this error thing before. Every mod have been working like dream. When i first planned my map making, I thought something something like desert, but that has been done somany times. So i decided to do This Arctic area; not too many buildings and roads and stuff. I went to look data for DEM. It was too north....No SRTM to me.... And rest is history Cry

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :oops: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

So i think is time to say goodbye for Map making for a while and try to learn some texturing and practising Unlocked FMB in general. I was too ambitious. Shiit, i feel like back in Dunkirk. So Sleep Well Lapland. New dawn will come. Good Night.

I like to thank everyone who have helped me specially FLY_zo, Asheshouse and Clockwatcher.

Because u have opened The Pandoras Box for me I think I`m gonna ruin Fly_ zoConfused Norway winter map first

( EDIT)
PS. 1741 times read. Hilarious! Thank you Folks. Stay tuned!!!

Dont feel bad kapteeni. Even I didnt finish the first map I made (Aleutians).

Map making gave me my fair share of headaches when I first started too. Being one of the first to venture into making completely new maps I can tell you that trying to figure it out isnt easy. I used lots of scrap paper and a pen and calculator to figure a bunch of this stuff out.

If you are getting an error loading your map, I can tell you that if your map_c is ok, its either something with your map_h or map_t that the game will not recognize it. Recheck your formats and keep trying.

Not to mention lots and lots gb of hard disk space... Im going to need a new hard disk soon, I think...

@ kapteeni, if you don't like GIMP, maybe you can try XnView or IrfanView to convert PS RGB .tga files to greyscale. I tried XnView once and it worked fine, although personally I still prefer GIMP.

Hi Skunkmeister!
I m not giving up. I just wanna learn everything from A to Z before i start to make a real maps. And also I want just fly. I just got new 8800 GT With 1 gig ram after ATI 2400 and with new Hurricane/Me cockpits and all new grazy mods here, this is like New game...

You and rest of the Pacific team have done great job with new Slot map. Is there any possibility that you guys could share your knowledge somehow with rest of the Modders?

Modders. That word sounds like something from the past. I did play Rockabilly and Psychobilly back in 80Confused. And in Finland there was also small bunch of rich kids who called them selfs "Mods". They didnt like us..... 8). We have our Mopars and they got their Vespas. I still weep, when i remember my Dodge Dart 67. It was ugly. Green... Like Olegs Terrain....

I think i try Gimp. I downloaded latest version and will install it tomorrow. Do you really think, that my Load.ini problems... Here we GO AGAIN... YOU BASTARDS...  .
After your support it would be a shame to give it up.... Well, at least YOU all can have some good laughs. I think we should rename this Thread to "Captains Stable"...

Its basically all here, in the map making discussion, in the tutorials that Clockwatcher has made, and in the various threads about the various maps. There isnt much to it really. Once you figure it out.

If you need any info on specifics, you can ask, but other than that, the basic stuff is already covered in a lot of threads here.

- fabianfred - 14.02.2008

I think a lot of us would like to get involved in map making....but are daunted by the complexity of it all....
I think all the map makers are sharing their knowledge all the time...as they have problems..and others give advice...and each new discovery is shared....

probably the best way is to try and get stuck in and start having a go at doing a map by oneself.....
as the saying goes...we learn best from our own mistakes...

right now there are many threads to search though to find the info we need....maybe one day one of the map makers will try and put all the essential info into one tutorial to make a map from scratch....but right now they are all busy with their own projects....many maps in progress, but only the Malta one has been released yet

- ClockWatcher - 14.02.2008

kapteeni,

Don't give up just yet Smile Your maps are OK, it was just your load.ini at fault. There is something else wrong here, possibly your folder structure or a syntax problem or a file name. If it runs on mine it should be able to run on yours.

+1
I just read that even new Planes/3d object might be possible . So nothing is written in stone. I been toying with map tools only for less than a week. And already i can make nice template maps. Harbours, new cities, airfields. and stuff like that. I think I m gonna write in this threat regulary about my er...progress  And if the Gods above are with me, i finally can offer my version of Lapland :!: to you. And hopefully with help of the patient community here...

Its somekind of odd syntax error here. Maybe because of first folder/path to folder/mame /what ever was incorrect. I consult with my friend (java specialist) and he told me that maybe IL" tryes to read that wrong data again and again... So.... its reinstall time again.

BTW we checked that load.ini. I looked ok..
It would be cool, if somebody can explain the file structure of Mods a bit. Its very important to understand where to put things. It has changed since the new wrapper came...
Here i have few questions which need to be explain because they are very fundamental to understand IMHO:

I dont understand that all.ini thing. It points to Files/Maps or to MODS/ maps or what ever mod load.inis in these folders. Right?
Answer here:

Why so many different folders to MOD maps?
Is it:
MOD/maps for creating maps and missions,
Answer here:
IL2 (Root )/maps for saving templates(ofjects and stuff? for unlocked FMB.
And Files/ maps for what???
Answer here:

What is that filelist in IL2 root then?
Answer here:

I need coffee!!!

Before answering your questions:

Are you using the "new wrapper"

Thats the system where all you soundmods go into the folder root/MODS

The folder system is a little complicated because it is still evolving.
It will be less complicated to you if you are given help to set up one system that works rather than trying to understand all of the options.

Keep up the entertaining posts Smile

WRAPPER.DLL *NEW*
Updating your wrapper.dll...

Please read carefully...

If this is the first time you are using MODS for IL2 on this site, you will need either ENG_SOUND_MOD or MOD-Activator After you have donethis, download & update your wrapper.dll with the link below

If you have allready installed IL2 MODs then just go ahead & download & install the new wrapper.dll below (it will not effect any mods allready installed)

Download > Wrapper.exe By QTim

Simply download this & install it & overwrite your exsisting wrapper.dll.
Its backward compatible so there is no need to worry about exsisting / older mods.
It eliminates the need for 'filelist.txt' from now on..
Mods can now be found in a folder called 'MODS' in the root of your IL2 directory.

It is this one

I dont understand that all.ini thing. It points to Files/Maps or to MODS/ maps or what ever mod load.inis in these folders. Right?

all.ini should be in root/MODS/MAPMODS/maps
Also in the same folder should be your Lapland map folder and any other map folders

Why so many different folders to MOD maps?
Is it:
MOD/maps for creating maps and missions,

You may have a folder root/files/maps
This is the old system
You should not have the old system and the new system running at the same time
Any map folders in root/files/maps can be moved to root/MODS/MAPMODS/maps provided that you will not overwrite any files. Ensure that the all.ini in root/MODS/MAPMODS/maps has all the references to load.ini for any new map folders

missions are still saved in the same place root/missions. These are not affected by the mods
You need to use FMB in normal mode to save missions.

IL2 (Root )/maps for saving templates(ofjects and stuff? for unlocked FMB.
And Files/ maps for what???

root/maps is the folder where "Save" command in FMB Map Editor writes files to
For the "Save" command to work there must be a folder in root/maps the same name as your Lapland map folder. You copy the files saved here back into your working folder after each "Save"

What is that filelist in IL2 root then?

The file is no longer needed with the new wrapper system you are using
