I'm not certain that the AI mod is causing mountain crashes either, it is probably inherent in the game itself.
But I do believe that most members when commenting on mountain crashes, do not mean when landing or taking off. I often see crashes that appear to be unnecessary, when for instance I am following a plane or a flight, and with only minimal pulling back on the joystick, I easily avoid the mountain side or hill and the other AI controlled planes ahead or behind me, keep on flying level and smack right into a mountainside.
This is at odds with other maneuvers AI controlled planes make at times, often quite abrupt, with huge altitude changes or zig-zagging all over the place during a dogfight or when dive-bombing or whatever. Sometimes the AI controlled maneuvers take my breath away at the audacity, at other times I shake my head and wonder if the AI pilot is not asleep in cyberspace or lost in a reverie.
The mystery is therefore why AI controlled planes so often crash into sides for no apparent reason.
Like I said, I doubt very much this mod causes it at all. It is probably part of the game coding or whatever the terminology is referring to core concepts.
But it would be wonderful if this mod could address this mountainside crashing in some manner or another. Cert has already performed a miracle or two in making this mod ... maybe he has another up his sleeve?

Sorry I think I have been misunderstood. I was not stating that the modded AI was causing crashes on mountain sides. I was just saying that the behavour of unexplained crashes of the AI modded and not modded was not changed. I have tested the same missionover and over again and sooner or later AI controlled plane will crash on the mountain side even if not damaged and/or under attack by other planes. As in the release notes of CERT 3.0 it was said "Fixed foolish bit of code that made planes fly into the side of mountains. Big thanks to RockyAlexander and Aviar for helping me out with this one". I was just pointing out that maybe the problem was still there. Without taking out anything to the excellent work of certificate

True that Japanese Attack aircraft were more likely to hold on to their bombs and continue the mission regardless of fighter attacks. I have read of them 'dumping and running' but it was less common with them. Perhaps IJN/IJA AI bombers/dive-bombers should have a different directive than others?
Incidentally, Swett downed the first 3 Vals while they had their bombs on (the third during the actual dive-bombing attack) and the other 4 of his official credit of 7 on that day where nailed after they had bombed and were returning home. That being said, none of the Vals dumped and ran before the target was reached in this case.

Just giving you my experience:
Before the last version of the mod, I often performed off line dogfights on the Slovakia maps...at several occasions my AI opponent (as or at least veteran level) crashed into mountains after some minutes of fight and mainly when it was more or less hit by some of my fires.........this Slovakia map additonaly to a very nice design is excellent for fighting at low altitude!!!
Yesterday evening fighting in a H75 A-3 against a Bf-109 E1 the AI plane never crashed in the mountain!!! fighting goes for at least 30 minutes...I followed up in a close aerial combat with a lot of figures and the AI finally get away with a smoking engine!! ...we fighted at very low altitude in the hills and valley during a long time.....
I am convinced that this mod gives to AI a real new FM and "human" attitude!! 8)
Thanks a lot to Certificate!!

The AI MOD was indeed causing
additional crashes in versions 2.0 and earlier. The information is posted earlier in this thread. However, in version 3.0, this issue seems to have been addressed.
Will we still see AI crashing? Yes. Can the crashing AI be completely fixed? In my personal opinion, no. If Oleg couldn't fix it, it's probably a limitation in the game engine/AI behavior. However, I would love to be proven wrong.
In any event, these introduced issues need to be watched very carefully. You don't want to add new problems while trying to address the original ones.

Yeah, maybe I should have been more specific there, I meant the bit of code that I changed that was causing more planes to crash into the side of mountains in the mod, not the inherent mountain problems pre-mod. I stand by my offer of attempting to fix it if someone can post a mission file that reproduces the behavior.

Thank you for your work, though I am sorry to say that I do not see this mod fixing the worst traits of the AI: rocket-assisted spiral climbs and the inability to turn their aircraft to their full potential. Even in ACE mode, the AI still don't come anywhere close the aggression of a human opponent.

...but thanks to Cert it's gotten closer 8)

Hi Certificate:
Don't know if you can get plane-specific but in the last couple of days or so my buddy and I have tried dusting off the FW-190/Ju-88 Mistel combo to try to have fun with it. It won't work as an AI plane. It climbs straight up, stalls, goes into a flat spin, and crashes while the "Stall" sign shows up on the right side of the monitor even though we're flying something else altogether.
As well as my heavily modded V409b1m, I've got a virgin version of 1946 - V408 - and the Mistel acts exactly the same way. I've tried changing speeds, climbing and diving waypoints and nothing is working. This is true for any map, any mission type, online or off.
It's really no great loss since it's one of those things we use to use for really daffy S*** when we needed a stress-buster of a mission.
Great days all.

As far as I know there is no incompatibility per se, they just both share some files and have to be merged.
