I thought he already had a base for the landing gear last time I talked to him.
We got official word that the guy who made a HUD will be helping us with avionics.

I'm not particularly into modern jets and much prefer the Korea and Vietnam era aircraft myself. One of the biggest problems I can see with aircraft like the F-16 is how to model complex avionics and weapon systems. Apart from that I have no real issues with whatever anybody wants to bring to this sim. Pushing the boundaries is a good thing once in a while.

For those morons who are going to take me seriously, I was in fact giving the sarcasm muscles exercise....
But seriously, looking awesome, would love to be able to fly that baby!
Even still, I think we have all had enough sarcasm to last us a while. I also want to apologize to you and everyone else for going off my rocker. I had my senior moment so I am ready to play nice now
Ever been really frusterated at something and just need to vent? I hope you understand.

Of course. This job provides plenty enough for that believe me.
I understand where you're all coming from and all, and though a few of the responses were overkill, there were some valid points in that poll that thread was not much of a debate, hence its locking. Although, I'm very interested to see if the game can handle propper avionics and modern fm's even if it doesn't go much further.
- Scharnhorst1943 - 23.02.2010
I guess only time will tell. I have no doubt in my mind that it will be done right or not at all. What I mean is that I really don't think we are going to see every modern fighter with terrible FM's put into this game. I am confident that the proven skill of AAA and other mod teams will only release accurate and quality products. If it turns out to not be possible then it will likely be abandoned. And you and Philip are right about one thing, if it does turn out to be possible, and that is a big fat if, then it will expand this game to a whole new dimension, which would be incredibly awesome.

Scharnhorst, at this point I'm just going to add that the 'big fat if' you mention, is rapidly becoming a medium-sized 'when'....
if you catch my drift....

Well I always admire talent of AC creators and, the massive improvements they gave to an old game now born in 2001 (if I'm correct)
But I still think that such planes don't fit to a game dedicated to WWII why?
1 As a read in others posts, seams that a lot of work must be done to simulate modern avionics and missiles.
2 Ad I said in an another thread, the major problem is environement! If for example, a F16 is created, it will be surrounded by buildings, vehicles, cities and air bases designed for 20's 40's.... If thoses objects can fit to WWI until Korea that's the maximum. To recreate vietnam bases atmosphere means a lot of work in term of vehicles buildings and also other AC of this period (Hercules, Skyraider, Bronco, Phantom, Helicopters, etc...) and I don't speak about modern NATO bases where FA18 and F16 are supposed to be included if you want to imagine former Yougoslavia or Irak scenarios...
It's like including a Spitfire or a Bf 109 in Lock-on. Do they fit to this sim environment?
Yes everything is possible, but in this case it will be a marginal effect regarding the amount of work and talent spended.
I get a good immersion in Il2 because I'm flying inside a an environment dedicated to the right period.
That's my opinion and always in respect for the job done.
And as it's said in other post if I don't like I don't download.

You have made a major point and I agree alot but I will still download it.

A point some folks overlook here. So the buildings won't fit the plane.
What's stopping modders from making new buildings, Hmmm?
What's stopping modders from making compatable acft, Hmmm?
What's stopping modders from making the correct environment for such acft, Hmmm?
Just becasue it doesn't exist right now doesn't mean enterprising modders can't make it exist.

I agree, US_GRANT....making a functional modern A/C is a real heavy amount of work. compared to that, making a new object, buildings, etc, is a comparative walk in the park....

Exactly. we can only hope that whoever makes this mod knows that
Othewise his family won't see him for a while...

When you look at the radar towers Cannon made for his UK map, I see the steel frame girders of a modern skyscraper that needs a skin. We already have the beginnings for modern buildings; just need the talented folks who made 'em to take the next step and make us a WalMart to go with 'em.

Why was this moved? We're already making progress. This isn't a policy debate. Its a BETA project that WILL happen(sorry, Arctic Viper. Too bad for you).
