Maybe you already know this link, but if not, you should have a look on it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_air_forces

I do not know if it's all well-researched on this wikipedia-page, but at least it is a rough guide to many air forces that existed up to now, including their original names.

Best regards!

Now, where do you think I got all the names from?
Exactly.....

@Gaston: why didnt you let me search the new countries' names.. Cry I wanted to do something for the next version Cry

Let's talk about improving French as soon as I get the results for the test this week
Back to topic: Any way to get them Markings found yet?

- Hierakares - 18.04.2008

You talked about one of the issues in solving this problem involves Java programming.

What exactly is this about? Is there any existing Java source code that has to be changed?

Just asking because I know C++ programming up to a certain extent and maybe could help a little.

Hierakares... you will maybe save us !!!

I was expecting a contact with someone who wanted to explain me some things. We should have met on TS today, but I have no news since Tuesday...

I hope he will not forget and that he has no problem !!!

In the meanwhile... new version available, go to see here :

Ah - thanks!

I did not know about that thread. I have downloaded it and have a look on it tomorrow, if I should find some time...

But just to say it in advance - I am not an informatics guy nor java crack or so - just writing my thesis with c++. But there are sure close ties between the two languages.

Of course, it takes some time until you figure out what a program fragment actually does.

So, as I unterstood up to now, we need to figure out how Il2 links the roundel TGAs to specific nations, as you cannot just put them into the right directory and make it work, right?

The main difference is that in Java everything is by default fully encapsulated - totally object oriented. In C++ you need to explicitly make it so. Otherwise the syntax of the two languages is quite similar.

On the inside it gets more complicated but if you know c++ it is enough to be able to read Java and follow the logic.

This is the exact problem, Hierakares. We donut have a clue how to do it, though.... :?

You guys might have considered this, as a fix, but, why not simply have, when the new countries selected, the markings hard fixed, as part of the skin? Default skins for example. Thinking of how the american planes are you know... This might be huge task to do, but I will put my hand up to help takle the default skin's... not to mention you could include skins from throughout the community.

Yes it would make it a LARGE download/mod. But worth it... you could even make it two part, each requireing the other...

Anyway guys, just a suggestion, and offer to help out.

- ILV_Aquila_Noctis - 19.04.2008

Magpie, on first thought this might sound nice, but there are a few issues:
1. As you said, the files would be immense
2. Making Skins for each and every nation would take ages
3. What about new planes? Every time a new plane comes, we'd have to edit the mod
4. Maybe someone wants to use one of the skins he already has with new markings on, butr without changing the skin?
And so on.....

- RAF_Magpie - 19.04.2008

Yes it would be a mamoth project, but, it was a suggestion, and an offer of my assistance as well.

I've kept a template of every skin I've done, and wouldnt take much to modify to what you're after. It would mearly be a generic default. It took me 3 and half months do to 90 odd skins. All that work is still there, waiting to be altered.

It was, and still is, an offer to help.

Regarding changing skins, or new planes - yes alterations would be needed, but thats life. It may be a needed evil.

The offer is on the table.

- Gaston - 19.04.2008

You have a very good idea, Magpie. I thank you in advance !!!

Maybe, to limit the size of the download, could we only do default skins which are representing planes that really served for each country... for example, for european countries, there is no need to have a B-29 which served only in the Pacific front !!!
