MOD for DGen.exe? - vtrelut - 06.11.2007
As you may know, DGen.exe has not been updated since September last year (version 4.0.6.12 is the latest).
Many new flyable planes from 1946 are not flyable in DGen today (Ar-234, Ki-27, Yak-15, etc), and many new maps are not useable in DGen either (Italy, Norway for instance). Needless to say, I suppose that the new flyables available here are not flyable in DGen either.
Is there anyway one could modify DGen.exe, so that new flyables and maps are supported?
I understand we may expect such an updated DGen.exe by Starshoy after 4.09m is issued, but members of this forum may have another idea?

Why not? With DCG you can substitute the scenaries to fly in Italy, Norway, etc and you can choose a good number of planes in your squadron.
Moreover, you can substitute DGen with DCG (there is an option there to do it).
Regards.

Sorry , just expressing a personal preference.
AFAIK there are 2 text files in the DGEN folder + .db files for each campaign
You should be able to add aircraft here.
(as I say , I prefer DCG for custom campaigns and have never tried editing these myself. I have some distant memory either on a forum someplace, possibly even in the manual ; that you can edit the planesets here.)
EuroPlanes.txt and PacificPlanes.txt I believe these have more to do with loadouts

Well , whichever you choose theres some kind of learning curve involved. One reason for choosing DCG is that once you have the template you can modify planes, objectives etc. AND run as online or offline campaign.

It's not a problem about files in DGEN folder. It's a problem about DGEN.exe. If you change the planes (Ki-27 flyable in Singapoore, for example), DGEN doesn't start the campaing. We need a new DGEN.exe that admits all the maps and planes
- ojcar - 06.11.2007
We need also a new il2FB.exe (english), that admits the new mods without editing manually maps, campaings, etc. (pretty hard if you have installed Enjoyr patches)...

Vtrelut does a lot of useful modding of DGen campaigns and has produced a number of completely new ones, most notably the French Wings series. Just thought that would shed light on why he would be interested in sorting out DGen issues and expanding the option rather than just abandoning it and installing DCG.
- vtrelut - 07.11.2007
Yes, that's exactly it! Thanks a lot to have understood and explained where I come from.
I also use DCG, and I am perfectly aware that DCG supports the Itlay map, as well as the new flyable planes from 1946.
But I still would like to use DGen also, and I would like to improve/expand my existing campaigns by using the new maps and modded planes, if at all possible. Ojcar is right: a new DGen.exe is required for this.
Any idea/info in that regard?
- vtrelut - 12.12.2007
Still no idea?
Is there any way to modify an. exe file, and if son how? Maybe one can have access to the DGen.exe code and update it, adding planes and maps?
- ojcar - 12.12.2007
I'd like this idea a lot! My project for China Theatre campaings is paralised because the only suitable map is the Burma map now. I'd like to have some European map to use as a China map (or the Manchuria map). I'd like to add the new maps (Nomonhan, for example), and the possibility of making all the planes flyable in a campaing. I'd like also to make flyable in some campaings some of the "hack planes" I have in campaings (I-185 as Ki-44, Ki-27 as Fokker D-XXI, etc). I'd also like to add the new flyable planes.
I know there is DCG, but I'd like to stay in DGEN. I don't like the "a pilot/squad winning the war" idea. If there is a DCG tuning to make the campaings overcome historically, I would change for DCG

This sounds like a job for QTim - a PM to Mr Jolly on this subject might be the way to start. The only problem I can see is that none of us knows what Starshoy will do with the 4.09.exe. It might be better to wait until 4.09 is out and we have the very last official version of DGen.
- vtrelut - 12.12.2007
Well noted! Thank you.
- Huxley_S - 12.12.2007
I know that DCG allows you a multitude of options but personally I find it a little soulless. The DGen campaigns have more character, unpredictability and variety IMO and for me have more immersion. I'm in agreement with the poster.

Yes I too would like to see
Dgen fixed I prefer more it compared to DCG me too.
