Mat Manager type of mod - Tigershark - 21.11.2007

Everyone remember this app, [Image: MAT_Manager_v2_36_GUI.jpg]

Well, is there anyway of making his artwork, or similar concepts, the default decals for the sim...

I hate having to use a third party program all the time...

...memory hog

Well as far as I was aware this is a run once forget program... you dont need it running in the background

- Tigershark - 21.11.2007

Have you used it before?

I used it WAAAAY back.. and I remember I had to launch il2 from mat manager... it would sit in the system tray... I was certain this didnt overwrite the exsisting hardcoded decals, it merely emulated its own in real time, via background app...

It now launches automatically. One time install and no hook file required. Latest and easiest install info and link:

If I recall reading about this a while ago correctly, it uses the same basic idea as the sound mod as far as file replacement goes. I don't see why it could not just be incorporated at this point.

yeah its good these days. Took me a while to get it working with the SM, buuuut, apparently im a rarity Smile

This has crossed my mind quite often since we have the ability to change certain things from the inside as for my part I mostly use the program to shut off the national marking rather than replace them. therefore most of the stuff just sits on my hard drive taking up space.

I feel even more like doing this now I've replaced most of the awful default blank skins in my install.

However I think it might be an idea to contact "Aces" the bloke who made it first, see what he says...you never know he may be interested in making it work -from the other end- as it were, equally he may not.

these are the default game markings extracted

(you need to add new entries to files.txt manually)

but Mat Manager is far better than the games default markings 'engine'

So everyones been using a "hack" for so long ?

It just puts the markings in the cache, which is why you dint clear the cache when running Mat Manager.

So VP, I love your skins btw, if I edit the default ones you uploaded and then put it in the correct il2 directory, it will overwride and I will have weathered or whatever I like decals, as opposed to the solid colored eyesore ones??

Correct?
